We added some eye-catching pupil-made signs to the garden today, and discovered a few parsnips in the process 😂! It is really time we harvested the last of those luscious looking leeks. A job for tomorrow 😊.
A big thanks to Emma from Learning through Landscapes for all the training, workshops and support provided to our staff and pupils this past year - all made possible through the Local School Nature Grants XL programme 💚🌿.
We had a lovely time in the spring sunshine on Monday as we gathered with friends and families of St Matthew's Academy to celebrate developments in outdoor learning this year ☀️ 🎉 🌻🪻🌼

We have exciting news! Our Gardening Club stars have been chosen as a winner in the Pocket Garden design competition! The competition is run by @KSBScotland in partnership with the Garden for Life Forum.
The challenge was to tell a story through a miniature garden design that uses edible plants and plants that attract wildlife, and to reuse something which would otherwise have been thrown away.
Our S6 @poweringfutures pupils did a brilliant job today presenting their challenge solutions to industry judges👌. Proud of all the progress you have made this year, both individually and in your teams ☺️👏.
Plant propagation - This week, S3 Personal Development pupils helped these little spiderettes to move on to a new phase of life in their very own pots 🥹.
Pupils impressed us with their teamwork, creative thinking and STEAM skills earlier this week as they braved the rain to take part in a "loose parts" outdoor learning session with Emma from Learning through Landscapes.
Ready Steady Cook, Mrs Lennon, Mrs Gallagher, Mr Brown & Mr Cumming had fun competing in a cooking competition for Sam & Caden’s S6 leadership project. Well done to Mr Cumming for winning with his risotto.

Today was all about sustainability in the garden ♻️. We sowed some "green manure" to help replace nutrients in the soil following our recent harvest, and to keep the the soil healthy over the winter months 💚.
A great day at Dumfries House today for some of our S1 & S2 pupils discovering more about the huge variety of careers available in the countryside. Thanks @TheRHET and @KingsFdn for organising this event !🚜
S1 pupils did a fantastic job digging up the last lot of potatoes for 2024. What a great harvest we've had this year 😄🥔🎉. Thanks again to the volunteers at Fairlie community garden for giving us all those top quality seed potatoes back in May 🙏💚.
Very productive use of MS Teams this week by N5 Creative Industries pupils as they collaborated in real-time on presentations and surveys, sharing the load equally 💻👐👥.
