On 25th April, a family of four died in Bhendi Bazaar, Mumbai after eating watermelon.
They had dinner with relatives, then ate the watermelon and started vomiting badly. All four passed away one by one in hospital.
Forensic report:
• Tests (54 rounds) found rat poison (Zinc Phosphide) inside the watermelon and in their bodies (liver, kidney, etc.).
• No poison in other food like chicken pulao.
• Poison was inside the fruit, not on the surface.
• Unlikely to be injected.
• No rat poison found in their house.
Police are still investigating how the poison got inside the watermelon. The case is yet to be classified as murder, accident, or suicide.
A very tragic and mysterious case.
