Going back to 1986, here's what August through December looks like in every midterm year:
• August: choppy, either a really bad month or a really good month. +4.2% median gain, but -1.0% average gain.
• September: bad month.
• October: +4.8% median, 80% win rate. This is the midterm rally.
• November: +4.5% median, 70% win rate. The rally continues.
• December: worst month typically with only a 40% win rate. Tax loss selling hits hard.
The total Aug to Dec return is +7.9% median with a 60% win rate, which is a good sign.
If this follows the historical playbook, expect chop through September, a strong October and November, then give some back in December.
13 stocks I'm focused on for earnings:
MONDAY
$PLTR $123.06 — Reports Monday after close. Options price a 15% move on free cash flow guidance.
TUESDAY
2. $AMD $476.15 — Tuesday print. Core Scientific 2.5 gigawatt deal makes AMD a credible $NVDA alternative.
3. $SPCX $108.37 — First earnings Tuesday, then roughly a billion shares unlock Thursday. Supply is the story. Buying this play under $100 closer to $80.
WEDNESDAY
4. $SNDK $1,214.83 — NAND pricing is the tell. Forward PE near 7 after a 50% July drawdown.
5. $WDC $544.84 — HDD is the storage bottleneck for AI data. Options imply a 16% move.
6. $SHOP $117.15 — Wednesday morning print. Market wants proof AI agents drive GMV instead of eating it.
7. $APP $395.90 — Pixel adds slowed in June and ROAS checks softened. Priced for perfection into Wednesday. Bearish on this one.
8. $LLY $1,147.61 — AI driven drug discovery plus the oral obesity pill ramp Goldman just flagged.
9. $DIS $96.19 — Fiscal Q3 Wednesday. New CEO D'Amaro's first real test with streaming margins in focus. Could be suprise explosion up! $NFLX tanked remember.
THURSDAY
10. $DDOG $267.97 — Observability is the AI tax. Every agent deployment adds logs, traces, and spend.
11. $TTD $18.04 — Down 80% from highs at nine times forward. Any stabilization gets violently rerated.
12. $QBTS $18.08 — AT&T just expanded its annealing deal. Quantum is the next narrative after AI compute.
FRIDAY
13. $OKLO $38.83 — Down 80% from highs. DOE cleared Groves and Meta prepaid a gigawatt campus.
One of the most bullish scenarios I can see for $MU and other semis is to undercut the "neckline" of the HnS pattern, suck in short sellers, run stops and then turn and run significantly higher.
