Two vaqueros in Haskell, Texas, 1901. The man on the left is Juan Vela while the man on the right is Juan Olivares Maldonado. Mr. Vela appears to have a small badge on his lapel, though that may be an adornment of some other kind. A gorgeous portrait!
A.J. "Jack" Dragoo of Brady, Texas in April, 1968. A.J. was 99 years old when this photo was taken and lived for two more years, dying in 1970 at the age of 101. He was born in Round Rock in 1869 and had been a trail driver, Texas Ranger and deputy sheriff. He was credited with ending cattle rustling in 14 Texas counties: Tom Green, Upton, Sutton, Irion, Menard, Kimble, Mason, Edwards, Val Verde, Crockett and Brewster. "A.J." stood for Andrew Jackson. What a face he has! And can you imagine being born right after the Civil War and living to see a man land on the moon?

Scene in downtown Abilene roughly 110 years ago. That car is something else. I wonder when they switched the steering wheels from the right-hand side to the left-hand side.
