BREAKING: Michigan is expected to hire Utah HC Kyle Whittingham as the program’s new Head Coach

Kyle stepped down from Utah two weeks ago after serving as the Utes head coach from 2005-2025. He is the programs all-time leader in wins with a 177-88 coaching record

Kyle won three conference championships with Utah (2008, 2021, 2022) and was named AP National Coach of the Year in 2008, Dodd Trophy Coach of the Year in 2019, and back-to-back Pac-12 COTY in 2021 and 2022

Utah finished with a winning record in 18 of his 21 seasons as head coach, including seven 10-win seasons. Kyle holds an 11-6 Bowl game record, tied for most bowl wins by an active head coach #GoBlue

We will never reach a consensus opinion on the sign stealing saga. Some think it was everything, others think its effect on outcome was overblown.

But I’m not sure how anyone can look at the success Mike McDonald has had in the NFL… Jesse Minter, Jay Harbaugh, Colston Loveland, Aidan Hutchison, Blake Corum, AJ Barner, Mason Graham, Kenneth Grant, Mike Sainristill, even JJ is starting to play good football (regardless he was one of the best Michigan QBs of all time), etc etc..

.. but especially McDonald, Minter, and Jay Harbaugh and say that the *only reason* Michigan won any big game post Covid was from Connor Stallions.

It’s just disingenuous and not even worth a further conversation at that point, if you can observe the high level, NFL success of these guys. And yet still say effectively, “Michigan was not really even good. The only reason they were good was bc of Stallions.”

Watching the Rams play Seattle last night, basically for the title of top dog in the NFL, and seeing McDonald come away with the win. Seeing a key special teams TD credit to Jay Harbaugh, and seeing all of the former UM players balling out.. I just don’t understand how anyone could reasonably down play how good of a team and staff Michigan had.
