The sister of ex-useless eejit of a first minister Jack McConnell was spared jail yesterday for stealing £9,000 from a disabled pensioner - after her brother refused to bail her out.

Anne McConnell took the money from the bank account of 80-year-old severe arthritis sufferer Janet Noteman while working as her carer on the Isle of Arran.

McConnell, the younger sister of Labour peer Jack, got hold of Noteman’s bank card and PIN number and cleaned out her savings account between February and August 2015.

She then told police her theft was caused by "the menopause”. She needed the cash to pay her mortgage and anyhow, hoped brother Jack would help her pay it back.

She was given a Community Payback Order (CPO) - requiring her to carry out unpaid work and pay compensation to the bank, who had earlier reimbursed her victim.

Anne McConnell was originally accused of stealing £17,900 from he victim, but ultimately pled guilty to stealing the reduced sum of £9,000.

This is indeed a superb letter from The Astronomer Royal of Scotland. “Someone, somewhere, has taken the decision to defund astrophysics research in the UK, but no-one seems quite sure who that was, or why.” I agree - my colleagues in particle physics have also tried, without success, to discover who owns the decision to damage physics research in the UK, perhaps irreparably, at a time when our economy desperately needs the skills and knowledge we develop and teach. @UKRI_News need to get a grip urgently and fix the problem someone, somewhere, has created.
