In a powerful Chicago Tribune op-ed, mayoral candidate Bill Quinlan makes clear that a 24/7 Amtrak maintenance facility does not belong next to Bridgeport homes, schools, businesses and Armour Square Park.

UNANIMOUS. @CTULocal1 House of Delegates voted to oppose Amtrak’s proposed Bridgeport facility, demand full environmental review, and reject billionaire interference in our communities. Thank you, CTU, for standing with our families. Our children’s futures come first. ALWAYS.
Our kids deserve safe, healthy homes and thriving communities. Their futures ARE worth investing in.
How does “Invest for Kids” justify giving Justin Ishbia a platform while his land swap puts our children’s well-being at risk?
We will not be silenced. Join us Oct. 28.
Here’s what Amtrak is calling an active rail yard. Union Pacific shut down its operations here in 2019, after years of winding down. That’s public record. And a rail yard is not the same as a 24/7 maintenance facility. #stopamtrakbridgeport
@soxmachine_josh Please. It’s so obvious Ishbia offered you some type of access to him/the plans/the future stadium. You can be a fan of the new stadium idea and still do honest and balanced reporting. You know that is not a working rail yard. You know this would devastate peoples lives.
@anewman35@soxmachine_josh@SoxMachine@ankinlaw@FoulTerritoryTV A hypothetical housing development (yeah right) as a benefit cannot justify a 24/7 Amtrak maintenance facility beside residents’ homes. He treated the CE as valid and called Canal Street an active yard. We have every right to challenge those claims.
@soxmachine_josh@SoxMachine@ankinlaw@FoulTerritoryTV 10/10 We expected harder questions from Sox Machine. Too much of this framing reads like a sales pitch for Ishbia’s vision, with residents expected to accommodate it. We are already here. We have already invested. Our families deserve as much consideration as his plans.
@soxmachine_josh@SoxMachine@ankinlaw@FoulTerritoryTV 9/10 We love the White Sox, too. That does not oblige us to accept whatever their prospective owner wants for our neighborhood. Loyalty to this team should include loyalty to the people and communities that have sustained it for generations.
These are just some of the tens of thousands of people whose community face the threat of constant pollution, diesel exhaust, noise and round-the-clock industrial activity from Amtrak’s proposed maintenance facility.
Read their stories.
We asked people in Bridgeport and Armour Square what they think about Amtrak’s plans to relocate a maintenance facility to their neighborhoods. https://t.co/kpbubG1BmE
Justin Ishbia put his name on this partnership when federal funding was announced. Now that elected officials and affected communities want answers, he’s distancing himself.
His role doesn’t become incidental bc scrutiny becomes inconvenient. Public money. Public accountability.
Residents have been demanding answers for months. Our homes, our historic park & our health are at stake. Thank you to the journalists asking hard questions. Now we need public officials to move beyond statements and take action to protect our neighborhoods. #stopamtrakbridgeport
The controversy over Amtrak and the White Sox in Bridgeport cries for answers. @ad_quig and @talia_soglin provide more new information about a project Gov Pritzker says has become a “bait and switch” https://t.co/Na6nLEveKL
