Join forces with hundreds of current and former CBC employees to stop @cbctandem and paid content: advertising that pretends to be news.

Many of us who worked @CBCRadioCanada think of Peter Herrndorf as the greatest president we never had.
He understood, supported, and championed the idea of public broadcasting, a concept recent CBC leaders have lost sight of, in their pursuit of paid content and reality TV.
RIP Peter Herrndorf - a new Canadian who made a better Canada. A champion of broadcasting and the arts - one of the good guys. Thoughts are with Eva and the family.
Peter Herrndorf was brilliant in all he touched. He created. He inspired. He led. The CBC’s best days were with him at the helm. Ditto Toronto Life. TVO. NAC. And so much more. RIP boss, mentor, friend.
The Persian galpals in my life will mightily object to this desecration of an unsuspecting pomegranate. NEVER EVER cut the fruit in half and assault it. @SMohyeddin @donya_z https://t.co/DglnpB9qjr
.@CBCRadioCanada dubbed it @cbctandem.
@CTV_Pt calls it PCT, Premium Contextual Marketing. By any name, the same BS: paid advertising that's disguised as "news" content.
Private companies should shun it. Public broadcasters should BAN IT. #cdnmedia

Let's kill sponsored content on the CBC.
The Senate Committee “has recognized what CBC managers and CRTC commissioners have not: that accepting paid content is antithetical to the principles of the public broadcaster.” @CBCRadioCanada@CRTCeng@StopCBCTandem

ammunition consisting of a number of small iron balls fired together from a cannon." I wonder what they'll hit this time.
Tandem and paid content on our national PUBLIC broadcaster, by another name. @CBCRadioCanada introduces “Grapeshot,” incorporating the CBC logo to appeal to advertisers. 1/2 https://t.co/gSj4dREqRo
.@CRTCeng failed to put the brakes on this insidious plan, one reason why so many public interest groups, such as @friendscb @FRPC_FRPC, are appealing the decision. This will be @PresidentCBCRC’s shameful legacy. #CdnMedia@StopCBCTandem
FRPC has petitioned Cabinet re #CRTC 2022-165 renewing #CBC's licences from 2022-27 without evidence for 4 of those years, without enforceable programming req'ments & permitting CBC if it wishes to end TV newscasts in large cities: CRTC says, trust CBC

As audiences willingly pay a premium for ad-free services (YouTube, Netflix), CBC bosses are hell-bent on more ad revenues. And 3 of 5 CRTC commissioners caved in to them. @StopCBCTandem
“The CRTC’s decision comes despite its own admission that it heard significant concerns from a host of experts, journalist unions and industry groups…during hearings in 2021.” via @ChrisGNardi @nationalpost #CdnMedia https://t.co/fP4tf5Q1Zr
In its highly disappointing ruling today about the renewal of @CBCRadioCanada's broadcast licences, @CRTCeng gave a green light to paid content on our public airwaves: corporate ads that look like news copy officially are A-okay. 1/4
