On Thursday, May 1, Wendell Walters, our Chief Housing Officer, joined Xenolith Partners, @NYSHCR, Women Prison Association, and more to celebrate the ribbon cutting of The Rise, a new supportive and affordable housing residence where WPA and Osborne will soon provide trauma-informed, wraparound services for justice-involved individuals and families. This model of partnership between nonprofits and affordable housing developers works!
Thank you @GovKathyHochul for championing supportive housing for this community!

The first Mid-State CO to be arraigned in Oneida County Court for the death of inmate Messiah Nantwi is 38-year-old Jonah Levi with the highest charge being murder in the second degree. He has been granted bail. @SPECNews1CNY
What happened to Messiah Nantwi behind the walls of Mid-State Correctional Facility should alarm every American — especially those who believe in justice, due process, and the rule of law. https://t.co/oHbKv0vcKF

You can't beat an unarmed inmate to death.
Ten New York Prison guards have been charged. Two have been charged with murder.
Make no mistake, Messiah Nantwi, the person they beat, was a murderer. He was a thug. He shot at police in the past. He executed someone.
But, LE and Guards must be above the vermin they guard, investigate, and apprehend.
That is what is supposed to separate the good guys from the bad guys.

Robert Brooks & Messiah Nantwi should still be alive today.
Their deaths are symptoms of a broken prison system that allows rampant abuse and neglect.
This week I joined @JusticePolicy to call for real reforms that end this cruelty and bring accountability to NY state prisons.
Last night we joined dozens of Long Islanders who showed us what compassion in action looks like. Our ed @SerenaFreeHer1 spoke and thanked the group for taking the time to write letters of support to men and women who need our support behind bars. Small businesses like @tinyraccoonbks
are invaluable as they bring our community together for good.
The indictment says Messiah Nantwi was beaten to the point of being unresponsive and dragged towards the infirmary and down three flights of stairs.
