A new permanent traffic signal at the intersection of Electric Avenue and Milan Drive in the Tahoe-Reno Industrial Center (TRI-Center) is expected to become operational in the coming days as crews complete final testing and signal activation work.
These improvements are designed to reduce congestion, improve turning access throughout the intersection, and enhance safety for drivers traveling to and from I-80.
This traffic signal was funded 85% by Tesla in an agreement with Storey County.
Motorists are encouraged to remain alert as crews complete the final stages of the project and the signal is placed into operation. Storey County appreciates the cooperation and patience of TRI-Center businesses, employees, and drivers throughout construction.
A major milestone for our Dispatch team! After 19 years of service, Rachel Ferris has been promoted to Communications Supervisor, helping lead the team that answers 911 calls and coordinates emergency response across the county.
Our latest Good Storey feature highlights the dispatch center, where calm voices on the line guide residents through emergencies and connect deputies, firefighters, EMS, and emergency management in real time.
Dispatchers stay on the line with callers while coordinating help in the field, often serving as the first point of contact in a crisis.

REMINDER: BOCC Meeting Canceled Tomorrow; Next Session Set for June 16

Storey County is Dementia Friendly. But what does that mean?
Our Dementia-Friendly Nevada group has been working over the past few months to better define how Storey County can support people living with dementia and their care partners.
The group recently developed a Dementia-Friendly Mission and initial goals to help guide this work forward.
Our Mission:
Dementia-Friendly Storey County is a community-driven effort led by Health and Community Services in partnership with local organizations, first responders, community members, and individuals living with dementia and their care partners.
Together, we are working to better understand the needs of older adults and create a community where everyone feels supported, included, valued, and safe. By listening, learning, and working side-by-side, we develop practical strategies that promote healthy aging and improve daily life. Our goal is to make Storey County a safe, welcoming, and supportive community for people living with dementia as well as those who care for them.
Current focus areas include:
• Brain health education through local and regional partners
• Expanding access to dementia support services, including future support groups and one-on-one support
• Building partnerships to improve safety, outreach, and the Silver CARE Program
• Exploring quiet, accessible rest areas along C Street
This work is ongoing, and updates will be shared as programs continue to develop.

Behind every permit, inspection, and business license in Storey County is a team working to keep projects moving.
Our Community Development team supports everything from first-time home builds to new businesses opening their doors. They handle permitting, plan reviews, inspections, code enforcement, and more, helping residents and business owners navigate the process from start to finish.
Over the past few years, their workload has grown significantly:
• Inspections: up 152%
• Business licenses: up 130%
• Plans completed: up 237%
Guiding that work is newly promoted Community Development Director Joe Starnes, who has helped lead the department through this period of growth while maintaining the high level of service residents and businesses rely on.
Even with increasing demand, the team continues to deliver consistent turnaround times and remains accessible to the public. You can call or walk in and speak with a real person who is ready to help.
From answering those first questions to issuing a final certificate of occupancy, Community Development plays a key role in helping projects move forward across Storey County.

Piper’s Opera House door restoration continues!
Thanks to the hard work of the Reyman Brothers team, restoration on the historic doors is moving along steadily. This important project is being supported through a grant from the Commission for Cultural Centers and Historic Preservation.
Right now, the team is giving the windows a fresh coat of paint while rehabilitating the doors at their shop in Reno. We wanted to share an in-progress look at the craftsmanship and care going into this restoration work.
