✍️ BETH PREECE is a fiction writer, essayist, and PhD candidate in creative writing at the University of Birmingham. Her short fiction and essays can be found in the likes of The Stinging Fly, Folding Rock, Extra Teeth, and The London Magazine.

✍️ KATE MASCARENHAS is an author based in Birmingham. Her novels include ‘The Psychology of Time Travel’, ‘The Thief on the Winged Horse’, & most recently, a roaring twenties supernatural horror called ‘Hokey Pokey’.
✍️ TOM MAGUIRE is a writer and DJ from North Brum. His fiction and essays appear in Floodgate Press, Derwent Press, Concrete Mag and elsewhere. He is perpetually working on his first novel about a flooded Birmingham.
✍️ CLIVE JUDD is an award-winning writer, literary curator, and bookseller originally from Worcester, now based in Birmingham. He is the co-owner of Voce Books, & Festival Programmer for the Birmingham Literature Festival 2026. He is the co-curator of STORIE.
✍️ ALAN KANE FRASER is a writer originally from Handsworth, Birmingham. His novel ‘The Muse of Hope Falls’ was published by Lightning Books in 2023. He still lives in Birmingham and now writes predominantly about the city and the wider West Midlands.
✍️ CURTIS EBANKS-FALCONER grew up in Handsworth, Birmingham but now lives in the Black Country He is currently in the process of publishing his historical novel, ‘The French Bet’.
✍️ SASHA BUTLER lives & writes in Birmingham. Her debut novel ‘The Marriage Contract’ (Salt) was published in 2025, and was listed as a Sunday Times best historical fiction book of 2025 & awarded ‘Best historical fiction to take you back in time’ by the Cosmopolitan Book Awards.
✍️ TAYLOR BURNS is a writer from Birmingham & current Writer-in-Residence at Voce Books. His debut novel ‘Trav’ will be released in July 2026 on Zer0 Books. He is the co-curator of STORIE.
✍️ ANIA BAS is an artist, writer and arts organiser working across text, performance, publishing and social engagement. Her debut novel Odd Hours (2022) was named the Irish Examiner’s Novel of the Year.
✍️ JOSH ALLEN is a Birmingham based creative non-fiction writer. Much of his current practice revolves around walking, especially in the Midlands region, with pieces recently published by Left Cultures, Floodgate Press, Heath & Mud and the Derwent Press.

✍️ BEN WADDINGTON has lived in Moseley since 1994 and has been leading guided walks around Birmingham and beyond since 2006, researching and revealing the city's unremembered stories. He is the author of ‘111 Places in Birmingham that You Shouldn't Miss’.

✍️ JAKE TRELEASE is a writer from South Shields who runs Tales About Nowt, a radio show about North East writing. He is currently working on a collection of short fiction about regional identity in post-industrial towns.
✍️ LAURA BLAKE is a Birmingham-based writer of English and Jamaican descent. Her debut novel, ‘Go Home Birdie Brown’ (HarperFiction), will be published in June 2026.
✍️ GRACE BEARD is a writer and editor from Birmingham. She has worked in travel journalism for ten years and is currently the travel editor at Time Out. Outside of journalism, she's slowly but surely working on a collection of short stories.
🗣️♦️ We returned to the mic last week as STORIE began it's 2026 slate with four incredible new works from ELFRIEDE ATWAL, THOMAS GLAVE, SJ KIM & LYZA LAWAL each story invisibly linked to each other by ghosts, folklore, & personal & cultural histories. Another great night!
