The Victorian era (1845-1914) brought a grand restoration to Geddington's church, led by the George Gilbert Scott. He preserved & enhanced the medieval features, securing (as he saw it) the church's beauty for generations. #VictorianEra#GeddingtonChurch
🧵 1/6 Geddington's original stone church was built in the Saxon era CE 850-970. Dedicated to St. Andrew. It survived Danish invasions and became part of the Dorchester Diocese. What stories the walls could tell. 🛠️ #GeddingtonChurch#SaxonEra
Geddington's church stood strong through the Reformation and Revolution (1534-1660). It saw the break with Rome in the 1530s and kept evolving with the times. If those walls could talk, they'd still have some stories to share! #Reformation#GeddingtonChurch
Had I not become so immersed in Geddington Church’s @HeritageFundUK-funded ‘Story in Stone’ project, I’d never ‘ve known that #OTD in 1307, Edward I died aged 68! Nor that he lived longer than any previous English monarch, & that his record remained unbeaten until Elizabeth I!
Diverted from #histfic to St Mary Magdalene Church in Geddington, I learn as ever the depths of my ignorance. Only now do I realise there were two Marys: Mary Magdalene who saw the resurrection; & Mary, mother of Jesus. Rev Gillian Gamble offered me this cartoon by @nakedpastor.

The Church of St. Magdalene at Geddington in Northamptonshire. The village is known for its Eleanor Cross, but the church is hugely interesting and worth a visit. Saxon in origin, the church has many fine features, including its west tower and spire. #SteepleSaturday
