This past Christmas I tried to do a little something different to volunteer more.
Normally the week leading up to Christmas I will volunteer at a food bank handing out food and donating
This is about 1,500 families being fed in just that week alone.
This year I decided to try and volunteer from December 1st all the way until Christmas Day about 140 hours in that time. There were days I didn’t want to because of the cold, or I simply didn’t feel like it.
Those things don’t stop a family from starving, and I helped with putting more than 10,000 meals on a families table for the holidays.
Some were people I knew, others were people I have never met, some might have looked like they never need help.
At the end of the day, you never know what somebody is going at all.
Set a goal for myself this year to volunteer for a total of more than 30 days totaling a minimum of 200 volunteer hours.
I’d recommend people to volunteer especially if you have the time to do so. Doesn’t have to be any crazy hours maybe a day or two now and then. It can help keep you understanding the community and everyone around you.
just a general question for degrees...
while I have enjoyed learning what i have through the time studying, i have lost a lot of interest in studying Software Engineering
knowing that many business degrees are not necessarily needed, i have been looking at a business related one just to have and get some more background
if you have recommendations of what degree is best feel free to drop it below because i really don't know what would be the 'best' one to look at
“A lot of people are afraid to say what they want. That’s why they don’t get what they want.” -Madonna
saw this quote a while ago and almost instantly implemented a “open door” policy within my department and working to get this rolling through the company
whatever is said in these conversations stays behind that door unless that person requested differently
some team members have the fear of speaking out and being treated differently for speaking on different things in a company or simply what they are struggling with at home
make your team trust coming to you without any fear you won’t hold that trust and you will gain their respect very quickly
being rewarded for your work will always be a great feeling
even if there are times you really dislike what is happening you will still appreciate the rewards in the end
after being promoted and being the youngest in the company to hold my position i dealt with a lot of comments from many team members...
"i am old enough to be your mother/father"
"you are a baby why should i listen to what you are saying"
"a lot of the young managers let the manager title get to their head"
"ive been doing this for far longer than you have been alive"
etc...
show them you are not there to prove "you are better than them" or "im your boss and know more than you"
no matter your position, work with your team and dont just give orders constantly
find a balance between giving orders and working on those same orders with your team to show that you are there to support them
show your team you are not there to have "power" over them
ive been doing this since i started my journey with my current company and have increased productivity throughout the departments ive been moved around too
not just because i work with them, but because i have made them work together as a team rather then individually
a company works best with teamwork
all im saying is @IanMunsick was a artist i listened to occasionally….
saw his tik tok live with him singing and now im addicted to his music
cant explain why but i am and it might be because some lyrics are relatable or maybe because the way the songs are wrote but…
keep it up Ian! 😀
no matter your position in a company
talking with people ranking above you or people ranking below you
there is always something to learn whether it be about that career or just life
dont get the ego that most young managers tend to get and simply take some of the wisdom that is being given
it is free and could help you far more in life than you would think
