The really insidious part — and the Pope sees this clearly — is what happens when someone from outside shows up. A person with different information, different experiences, different intuitions, represents the one thing that could break the closed loop open: genuine otherness, which carries actual reality into the group. But the captured group doesn't experience this as helpful. It experiences it as a threat, because that person is, structurally, exactly what the bubble cannot survive contact with.
