The urge: to spend the day writing beautiful, well-crafted sentences that will change literature as we know it.
The reality: getting home after work and doomscrolling for 2 hours before cooking dinner.
Author: Please research agents before querying. If they don’t represent your genre, sending it anyway — or labeling it incorrectly — won’t improve your chances. Querying the right fit helps everyone, and I don’t like sending rejections as much as you don’t like receiving them. 🙂
Since becoming a literary agent, I have offered to represent 4 writers. I found them through 1. MG Hub pitch, 2. Writer friend referral, 3. Agent referral (mentor passed a manuscript to me that I loved in her requests), 4. My slush pile (Query Tracker). #amagenting
A good writing group will help the writer. Always look at criticism as "does this help the story" also balance the good and bad so the person doesn't get dejected. Also FUCK THIS GUY #writing ##WritingCommunity
Went to a writing group critique session tonight where another author was told her opinion didn’t matter because he “didn’t expect a romance author to understand”.
Just in case you ever wonder why my MMCs are NEVER human men.

Agree. I love that psychopath Arlecchino from Lies of P. He's a great villain, bone chilling and well written and designed. He's sickingly evil! I always save him as my last battle in Lies of P. I never agree with his actions and can't wait to curb stomp him into the ground.
A rich man hired me to prove his wife was cheating.
I’m a private investigator.
He paid for six months of surveillance, wanted evidence for a divorce, and was absolutely convinced his wife was sleeping around.
So we watched her.
For four months.
She volunteered at soup kitchens. Helped at children’s hospitals. Ran church food drives.
She was spotless.
Her husband wasn’t.
He was the one bringing women home. Sometimes two in one day.
At the four-month review, we showed him everything.
His wife was loyal. He was the cheater.
He got angry, canceled the contract, told us to pull the equipment, then refused to pay us because we “didn’t find what he hired us to find.”
So I did something he definitely didn’t plan for.
I gave his wife everything.
Every video. Every timestamp. Every woman.
She divorced him. Took the house. Took the cars. Took a huge chunk of his money.
Then my company sued him too.
We won.
A few months later, I ran into his ex-wife again.
We got coffee.
We’ve been dating ever since.

Querying writers, please don't post screenshots of the rejections you've received, especially the ones that include the agency/agent name. Trad publishing requires a lot of secrecy in the process and agents take note of those who overshare online.
⚡️Forty is the age where a person finds out who they actually became.
By then, the body tells the truth. Money tells the truth. Marriage tells the truth. Kids tell the truth. Career tells the truth. Energy tells the truth. The fantasy version is dead.
Most people are not destroyed by bad luck. They are destroyed by fear, avoidance, and years of lying to themselves. Forty is when the bill shows up.
That is why it feels terrifying. Time is no longer theoretical. Parents start dying. Children need real provision. Weak habits become permanent damage. Mediocrity stops looking temporary and starts looking final.
Fear steals lives. People waste their strongest years hiding, delaying, coping, numbing, rationalizing, and pretending they still have endless time. Then forty arrives and reality becomes visible.
The clean truth is this.
Forty is terrifying because by then there is evidence.
