@wesleytypes @dragonage Thedas burned off screen and the Tevinter Imperium had a lot less slavery and darker themes then I expected. Also it was a rehash of Kirkwall. We saw poor districts and docks. Also the Antiva Crows are good guys? Since when??

6. It's fine to explore shady and uncomfortable topics in a safe way on page. In NO WAY should a person consider this normal behavior.
7. It's never ok to bring this stuff into your reality. Never harass people over toxic couple dynamics.

Continuing my thoughts on #darkromance, I think authors are being pushed into the dark romance category when they are really writing erotica horror. What really stands out in a dark romance is:
1. Taboo kink or topics
2. There doesn't need to be a HEA in a dark romance.

3. The hero can stalk, cross boundaries and make the FMC feel fear but should never actually hurt her. Once the pain begins it's not a romance it's just erotica horror.
4. NO - and I MEAN THIS- NO KIDS OR TEENS should be reading this material.
5. Trigger warnings on everything.

To be clear I have no problem with an adult reading dark romance. I have no problem that it exists. I love Rina Kent's Monster trilogy. The trigger warnings are there for a reason. Please read them carefully. And if there's something that bothers you- STOP READING.

Well said! This is the only problem I have with dark romance. Teens should not read and come back when they are adult enough to understand problematic, toxic, and dubious consent relationships these dynamic are not normal

the issue with dark romance is that teens are reading them and romanticizing wanting a stalker. some of them can differentiate between reality and fiction, but for those who can't, this is dangerous. they're romanticizing something that can inherently put one's life in danger.
