@Super_Samario That's laughable mate, Canadian Tire misused the Temporary Foreign Worker program, so why should Canadians fund companies replacing Canadian workers? I'd rather buy from a US company than a Canadian company importing cheap labour. Practice what you preach.
@Paulrs6337@sunlorrie@McLeanChronicle Fair comparison, PoS is Canada's equivalent. Ontario power of sale listings are up ~5x since 2022, national delinquency hit 0.24% by Q4 2025 as pandemic-era low mortgages renew into higher rates. Similar magnitude to the US foreclosure rate, honestly not a clean win either way.
@Paulrs6337@sunlorrie@McLeanChronicle Trade deficit isn't a recession, wrong metric again. Fair point though: UK, Germany, Japan have all brushed technical recessions but still stayed above water. Doesn't change that Canada logged 2 straight negative GDP quarters โ the actual definition in question.
@Paulrs6337@sunlorrie@McLeanChronicle Net debt only looks low because you're counting CPP/QPP pension assets against federal liabilities โ money earmarked for retirees, not available to pay down debt. Apples-to-apples, Canada's general government gross debt is ~113% of GDP. Numbers are fun indeed.
@Paulrs6337@sunlorrie@McLeanChronicle Recession = 2 straight quarters of negative GDP, not 1 good month. Canada already hit that: Q4 2025 -1.0% annualized, Q1 2026 -0.1% annualized. A 0.5% April bounce is welcome, but it doesn't erase a technical recession that already happened.
