THE WILDERNESS
I received an Aztec wall
of vision
& dissolved my room in
sweet derision
Closed my eyes, prepared to go
A gentle wind inform’d me so
And bathed my skin in ether glow

Today we celebrate the poetic spark and fearless energy of Jim Morrison on his birthday.
“Jim Morrison wasn’t a showman. He was a Shaman.” -Ray Manzarek
“Jim should be recognized not just as a rock and roll poet but really as one of the greatest poets of our time” -Robby Krieger
“Jim was just searching for the truth…always seeking.” -John Densmore
Jim pushed boundaries and his own creative limits. He transformed each stage into something alive and unpredictable. His spirit remains in the hearts of the millions of fans he touched, collaborators he worked with, and future generations of artists he inspired.
Happy Birthday, Jim. Your spirit lives on.
On November 17, 1978, The Doors released AN AMERICAN PRAYER.
Morrison’s poetry met new music from Ray, Robby, and John, bringing his words to life seven years after his passing.
As Ray said: “We could finally make Jim’s poetry album for him.’”

Originally written by Willie Dixon and recorded by Howlin’ Wolf in 1960, “Back Door Man” became a Blues-soaked staple of The Doors’ early live sets.
Featured on their 1967 debut album, the band’s version turned the Chicago Blues classic into a raw, electrified performance.
