It's because 35mm scans are not a good reference for color, grain, detail, or basically anything you're praising the print scan for. It's true that WKW went revisionist on the remasters to the displeasure of many, but labels don't do this because it's not good.
@NLScavenger@FootlongShoe i agree. this was insanely overpriced. $70 for a single disc release with shit encodes is criminal compared to what other labels offer.
the Iron Angels films are fuckin awesome if no one’s seen them by now
.
Moon Lee and Yukari Oshima are the shit!!
I think people easily forget that Michelle Yeoh & Cynthia Rothrock weren’t the only women leading HK Action back in the day
@OldPangYau lol. That’s typical for https://t.co/pI5dBFcyy0’s official reviews. Very few of their reviewers can differentiate between a good/bad audio track. (off topic but nice video essay on shawscope 3!)
Bastard Swordsman [1983]
Directed By: Tony Lou Chun-Ku
"One of the greatest martial arts movies of all time and I’m not just talking wuxia films. Bastard Swordsman is perfection." This is a quote from the homie @fuforthoughtpod
Tony Lou, alongside Ching Siu-Tung changed the game in the Wuxia genre during this period in the 80s. Tony Lou with The Lady Assassin and Ching Siu Tung with Duel to the Death. This clip is captured from the amazing Shawscope Vol.3 from @ArrowFilmsVideo
and it is the best set out of all the volumes. @fanaticaldragn is covering this set on his Youtube channel.
You can purchase this set over at @mvdentgroup
who are currently having an Arrow sale.

Late era Shaw Brothers contains many gems, but I have a particular fondness for BASTARD SWORDSMAN (1983), in which director Tony Lou combined as many cinematic possibilities as possible to offer the utlimate sensory experience to the viewer.
Original Japanese B2 poster for TO SLEEP SO AS TO DREAM with artwork by celebrated illustrator, graphic designer and director Makoto Wada—known for his unique pop art style and caricatures, often found in popular magazines, books and film posters.
I haven’t seen anyone bring up Moon Lee or Yukari Oshima yet so here’s their prolific fight scene from
IRON ANGELS (1987). Both bone-breaking and fluid, their skills were unmatched back in the day 🔥💪🏽
Kara Hui was the first woman that not only kept up with but outshone her male costars whom had been training for decades longer. She went from old school to modern, became the best actor of her generation, but would occasionally go toe to toe against Donnie just in case we forget
Reminiscing on Corey Yuen in light of his passing made public, Ng See-yuen said the Japanese side brought in their own stuntmen who initially looked down on the local HK ones, but Yuen impressed them with his ingenuity, and they gave him the nickname Smileless Tiger.
I want cinephiles to look at me dead in the eye and say Tokusatsu effects are "cheap" and "worse" after seeing the Godzilla vs. Biollante behind-the-scenes footage.
