In Canada, where @RobertFife lives, RESPs have long been promoted—including in hospitals—to encourage parents to start saving for their children’s education from day one.

Yet a similar idea in the U.S. is suddenly portrayed as "Madness".

When it comes to Trump, too often the reaction is to oppose first and evaluate later.

In my view, this is one of the better policies he’s advanced. I might have chosen a different name than “Trump Accounts,” but the underlying concept of encouraging long-term savings for children deserves credit on its merits.

Carney can wait as long as he wants.

Many Liberals and emotional Canadians acted as though they held all the leverage when they were negotiating from a far weaker position than they believed.

Business owners and investors won’t wait.

Capital flows where it’s welcomed. When confidence disappears, new investment stays away and existing capital quietly looks for better opportunities.

The people who will pay the price won’t be politicians. It’ll be Canadian workers, families, and small businesses.

By the time this is resolved—if it ever is—the economic damage may already be done. Rebuilding investor confidence and repairing the relationship could take years, not months.

Canada badly mishandled this.

Acting like a petulant child is rarely a successful economic strategy.

The costly decision to rename public landmarks in the first place reflects poor judgment by elected officials and institutional leaders who should have known better.

It happened during a period when institutions rushed to rename places like Ryerson University, despite the historical complexity surrounding Egerton Ryerson’s role and his connection to what later became the residential school system. Meanwhile, the modern Ontario education system still traces many of its roots to reforms from that era by that same man.

History deserves to be studied—not erased.

What’s striking is that many of the same politicians and institutions that were eager to erase historical names now appear willing to overlook or excuse authoritarian regimes, dicators, and groups or people accused of terrorism when it suits their politics.

Principles shouldn’t change based on the issue of the day.

It’s time to move beyond performative politics and focus on facts, context, and consistency.

Changing names doesn’t change history.

I’ve witnessed this firsthand.

As an immigrant who came to Canada as an international student, I had to buy private health insurance and wasn’t permitted to work off campus. The expectations were clear: follow the rules, contribute, and earn your place.

That’s why I struggle to understand how we’ve reached a point where so many Canadians have surrendered their national identity and shared values. Ideology has destroyed common sense !.

As a Jamaican, this is especially difficult for me to comprehend. Jamaica has a strong culture that people embrace and celebrate. I’ve always believed immigration should enrich a country while also encouraging newcomers to embrace the values and institutions of their adopted home.

I became a Canadian citizen. My children are Canadian. That’s precisely why I care about the country’s future.

Hamas’ fight is not Canada’s fight. Hatred toward Christians or any other faith is not a Canadian value. Theft, intimidation, and criminal behaviour should never be normalized. Respect for everyone is Canadian—but not if it comes at the expense of the rights, freedoms, and safety of others.

How did we get here?

In my view, many of today’s challenges stem from years of political decisions about immigration, integration, and multiculturalism. I believe Canada’s leadership bears responsibility for the direction the country has taken over the past decade.

And guess what that leadership still enjoys the support of many.

If seasoned companies are selling off because Claude can supposedly replicate their best practices, that seems too simplistic.

Take $SHOP. Shopify has enabled millions of entrepreneurs to launch online stores and build successful businesses. If building that capability were truly easy, why haven’t countless competitors already taken meaningful market share?

Or look at it from the opposite angle: if AI is really this transformative, wouldn’t a company with Shopify’s resources be among the first to use it to make its platform even better, even if the technology ends up augmenting its business more than replacing it?

I’m struggling with the idea that AI will so easily displace deeply entrenched businesses with real moats. The more precise question is whether the market is underestimating incumbents’ ability to adapt and integrate AI, or whether that adaptation will happen too slowly for them to capture the upside before new entrants do?
