According to reports, Burkina Faso’s Rapid Intervention Brigade, BIR 20, conducted a major operation in Gayéri, a town in the eastern part of the country. Security sources claim that more than 200 JNIM militants were neutralized during the engagement. The area had been facing sustained attacks and intimidation from the group, and the operation is being described as one of BIR 20’s most significant in recent months.

JNIM reportedly deployed about 400 to 500 fighters to attack Gayéri, in what was intended to be one of their largest assaults in Burkina Faso in months. Unfortunately for them, a BIR unit is stationed in Gayéri and operates from the town, which allowed for a rapid and coordinated response.
