Ramayana’s Mangal Rang is a mediocre song, yes, but to call it qawwali-coded is a stretch.
The Hindi word “rang” has its roots in Sanskrit and ultimately Proto-Indo-European, so it is found in Persian too. The chorus and the guitar make it a qawwali? Really? Come on.
Mangal Rang is an obviously qawwali-coded song in Ramayana - the chorus, the "rang" metaphor (most famously used in Aaj Rang Hai), and the guitar which evokes bulbul tarang.
Aside: self-inspired from Enna Solla Pogirai.
@PizzazzyCalvin Hehe, the chemistry pulled me in first too. Both Deepika-Ranveer were a revelation. Over the years, I realized how brilliant Ravi Varman’s cinematography, Anju Modi’s costume design, and Bhansali’s music were.
