RT EarthStrikeUK: RT @freeourunions: Speakers at TOMORROW's demo to stop Truss' plan for new-anti-union laws include the London organiser of the union that's led the strike wave the Tories want to stop - Jared Wood of @RMTunion@RMTLondon

RT EarthStrikeUK: RT @freeourunions: Anti-union laws have been used to undermine NHS workers' struggles. They prevent strikes in solidarity with NHS workers as in the 80s and directly on political issues like govt health policy.

The government is planning to introduce a raft of new anti-union laws to further limit workers' right to organise and strike. This is bad news for workers, bad news for communities, and bad news for the climate too. But why are anti-union laws a climate issue?... (๐งต)(1/12)

RT EarthStrikeUK: Now the government is threatening to introduce new laws that will make it even more difficult to organise and strike, and in some industries, force unions to undermine themselves by providing a minimum service... essential banning effective strikes (10/12)
RT EarthStrikeUK: Just like the attacks on our right to protest, these new laws are designed to allow the government and bosses to do whatever they like in pursuit of profit, without fear of any consequences (9/12)
RT EarthStrikeUK: The harder it is for workers to organise and strike, the easier it is for bosses to cut working conditions, safety and environmental protections (8/12)
RT EarthStrikeUK: As well as limiting what workers can legally strike over, these laws also add layers of bureaucracy that make organising strikes a slow and difficult process and take away momentum when it is most needed (7/12)
RT EarthStrikeUK: Under current UK law the Green Bans would be illegal. So would any strike over "political" issues or in solidarity with another group of workers (6/12)
RT EarthStrikeUK: At the request of the local community, members of the union refused work on building projects covered by the green bans. Social housing, historical buildings and wild land were all saved due to the union's action. (4/12)
RT EarthStrikeUK: In fact, there is a long history of using strikes to defend the environment. For Example, in New South Wales in the 1970s, the Builders Laborers Federation issued โgreen bansโ on projects that they and the local community felt were environmentally or socialโฆ
RT EarthStrikeUK: Industrial action can be a very powerful way to defend the environment by preventing bosses for pursuing destructive projects (e.g. building on wild land) or engaging in polluting practices (e.g. dumping waste materials)โฆ (2/12)
