🚨 India’s Waqf Amendment Act 2025 is being called a direct attack on Muslim religious rights.

Critics say it violates Article 26 and label it a “genocidal project” by the BJP.

What is Waqf—and why are so many protesting?

1/7 Two attacks. Two communities. One country. @cfmmuk data reveals a two-tier media. A #Muslim community attacked in #Edinburgh got less than a seventh of the airtime across British news channels that was given to the Golders Green attacks in London. 🧵

MEND Statement on the Resignation of Prime Minister Keir Starmer

Keir Starmer's resignation paves the way for the seventh prime minister in a decade. Another change of leader must not allow for the same substance to remain. We see in it an opportunity to move the country toward a better future, but only if the next leader breaks with the failures of the past rather than repeating them.

The @ObserverUK decided to use a picture of @Bushra1Shaikh wearing a #hijab despite her no longer wearing one nor having done so for years, out of choice. This seems like a very deliberate choice of image.

Rep. Ilhan Omar sounded the alarm on India’s worsening persecution of religious minorities. “Reports coming out of India [place it at] the 8th stage of genocide,” Omar said. “It’s really important for us to continue to raise the alarm, because we know that it is not just the Modi administration that is causing havoc in India, but it is becoming systematic and it’s becoming societal.”

1/ How the Hindu supremacist Baratiya Janata Party (BJP) wins elections by disenfranchising voters, mostly Muslims through ‘Special Intensive Revision’ of the voters list. The data shows SIR has played a significant role in its election victory in an Indian state of West Bengal.

A wonderful article to understand the lessons on Indian Politics in the wake of the latest elections including in West Bengal and Assam.

1/ The crisis in places like Assam & West Bengal is not simply electoral manipulation. The deeper problem is the exhaustion of oppositional politics itself.
Disenfranchisement matters. But procedural outrage alone cannot defeat hegemony.

[StriveUK @StriveUKOrg]

3/ Perhaps the most revealing contradiction: Muslims are expected to defend secularism, while secular parties hesitate to even name Islamophobia.
The question is not only how democracy was undermined — but why oppositional politics no longer inspires collective hope.

1/20🧵Since February's Gorton by-election, and the run up to the this week's local elections, we’ve tracked a surge in anti-Muslim framing with regards to Muslim voters.

Across the 1,000+ articles we analysed, 1 in 4 linked #Muslims to "threat."

The process to elect the government in Indian state of West Bengal has completed today. But the Election Commission of India, the top body to conduct election, failed itself, the people , the Constitution and the very idea of electoral democracy. You know why?

1/9 Tonight @BBCPanorama reports on rising #antisemitism. No equivalent film exists for #Islamophobia. This is not accidental. It reflects a hierarchy of racism embedded in BBC editorial culture, consistently prioritising #Jewish suffering over #Muslim suffering.

A thread. 🧵

Refusing the term Islamophobia is also refusing the history and structure that it compels us to confront.

[StriveUK @StriveUKOrg]

On International Day to Combat Islamophobia, at a time of rising Islamophobia globally, from everyday racism to the dehumanising discourses surrounding genocide and mass violence, the UK government remains reluctant to name Islamophobia as such.

[António Guterres @antonioguterres]

Muslims worldwide often face institutional discrimination, socio-economic exclusion, biased immigration policies & unwarranted surveillance & profiling.

This International Day to Combat Islamophobia, let’s re-commit to the equality, human rights & dignity of every person, no matter their faith.

[StriveUK @StriveUKOrg]

Replacing Islamophobia with “anti-Muslim hostility,” is more than just a terminology change. it reduces a structural condition shaped by racialisation, securitisation and unequal power to something that appears merely interpersonal.
