Strong Indy is the Indianapolis subchapter of @CNUMidwest and unofficial affiliate of @StrongTowns. We seek to educate on equitable development and transport.
@IndyGoBus The Blue Line will be the third and longest BRT line planned to improve transit service in Indianapolis. The project is more than just improved bus transit, it will add an estimated $220 million of investment to the Washington Street corridor.
Overall, this continues to demonstrate what a fundamentally un-serious legislator Freeman is. Nothing introduced by Freeman has served a public good, only a personal vendetta.
This is an important meeting to attend. The State Legislature is preparing anti-Indianapolis bills for the year and may attempt to unilaterally undo the democratically-passed referendum.
📣 Red Line riders ‼ Be prepared for upcoming station closures and detours near @IU_Health Methodist Hospital. Beginning on or after Jan. 11, the stations at Capitol Avenue/14th Street and Capitol Avenue/18th Street will be closed due to construction. ➡https://t.co/WcLR0jHBn7
@Jim_Merritt@JamesEBriggs@AttyAbdul So are you opposed to the utilities being able to use the right of way at no expense? Will all cities and counties suddenly have to start paying utilities to relocate for public works projects, or are Republicans singling out IndyGo because they simply don’t like it?
What happens if the utilities start lobbying to force cities and counties to pay for their relocations on other projects? Basic maintenance suddenly gets significantly more expensive and the utilities still get a free ride.
General reminder that State Law allows private utilities to use the public right of way *for free,* so long as they move for a public works project.
Picking out one project for one agency in one city to change the rule sets a really dangerous precedent for everyone else.
I keep hearing there will be a bill to make IndyGo pay for utility relocation on Indy's bus rapid transit project, which would be a huge and unbudgeted cost. I asked Sen. Aaron Freeman about it.
Freeman: “I am not doing anything on IndyGo this year. I’m tired of being the guy.”
We’ve created dangerous stroads. In the worst case, we pretend they are pedestrian places. Terrible! We can get this right:
Stroad to Road: Reduce access, prioritize through movement, simplify.
Stroad to Street: Slow traffic, prioritize people over cars, build a lot of stuff.
The more you know...about the MPO!
Over the past five years, the IMPO has provided more than $30 million in funding to our Central Indiana communities for bridge repairs and replacements"
Playgrounds and parks are the heart of our city's neighborhoods.
From playgrounds, courts, and wifi access - $16.5 million in American Rescue Plan funds are being invested in @IndyParksandRec city parks across Indy!
