Crypto had promise but there was nothing to spend it on except NFTs, which could be anything but given the relative immaturity of the tech was limited to proof-of-concept outputs, i.e. images.

So people made art. Cool. Then some people applied trait-based generation to mass-produce the art. Cool.

Then people started collecting the art. Cool.

And the mass-produced collections felt like trading cards, so they collected those too. Cool.

And everyone doing this bought Ethereum really early so had money to blow. Great.

Then the bull market happened so now even many Ethereum novices had money to blow. Even better.

Then marketing teams stepped and saturated the market. And hyped every mint. And botted every discord. And overpriced literally everything. WAGMI.

Yes, there was some real demand—always is—but a lot of it was illusory. But the crazy liquidity in the system allowed many people to make money flipping them anyway.

Then the liquidity left the system. And the result was a wasteland of gambling addicts holding illiquid JPEGs, many with no value.

Some created real communities around them, yes. But lazy, incompetent, or scam founders taking the mint proceeds and running away was the norm.

And now, many of these marketers have the nerve to act like memecoins are a corruption of morality.

They gaslit everyone into thinking it was about the art for two years, and now that people have adapted to gambling more efficiently, they discourage their followers from participating.

The truth is that the 2021-2022 NFT boom worked because people were making money. Yes, it really was partly about the art. But for many it was about the money.

The communities having the most fun are the ones where everyone is making money. And if that effect is tied to an NFT community, then the floor price will actually reflect that - see miladys and sprotos.

Stay as liquid as possible unless you see a community underlying that NFT that you think is worth accessing. Or you just really like the art. Whichever.
