2026 Stanley Cup Final features 4 Windsor @SpitsHockey alumni for Carolina @Canes Mark Craig, Tim Gleason, Taylor Hall & Jalen Chatfield. Best of luck gentlemen.
HUGE signing for Windsor. Kid will be a star in this league.
Now after trading some young guys at the deadline and and losing a bunch of guys to the AHL/NCAA they have McLaughlin and Bergeron to build around the next few years.
@NathanPStrauss Definitely. I mean at the end of the day, these programs are trying to win championships. It’s a delicate balance trying to appease everyone. So many things to weigh.
This is a huge get for the Spits!
Ty Bergeron was one of the top Americans in the class. As a true rookie in the USHL Bergeron had 6G 14A in 55GP and scored a goal and an assist in 9 games with the U17 NTDP. Should immediately slot into the top of the lineup
Sources: The NCAA Division 1 Cabinet voted in support of a substantive change in the age-base eligibility rules, which are expected to be approved later this month.
Significant — and hugely positive — news for men’s college hockey. After pressure, NCAA relents a little on five-year clock, moving to start it after an athlete’s 19th birthday. Sigh of relief across the hockey world.
Big kudos to hockey commissioners, with assist from entire hockey community in North America, including NHL. This was total common sense. Basically same as column I wrote 6 weeks ago.
What a relief for hockey and massive common sense. As I've been writing, the lawsuits will happen no matter what. So just do the sensible thing. Having it apply to all sports lessens the vulnerability, which is what NCAA wants.
I don’t think I can undersell how stunning it is that the NCAA changed course in this issue. They told the coaches in Florida nothing was changing. They released a statement 6 days ago shutting down the counter proposal.
The NCAA has sent out another memo on age-based eligibility: The NCAA appears poised to start athletes' five-year clocks either upon enrollment or at the start of the academic year following their 19th birthday. This is what parties in the hockey world wanted.
Breaking: The NCAA D1 Cabinet met and further discussed the hockey model today.
Sources say the NCAA will adopt hockey’s proposed model, where the eligibility clock begins the season following an athlete’s 19th birthday or college enrollment, removing HS graduation.
Long-time NHL general manager Cliff Fletcher has passed away at 90.
A Hockey Hall of Famer, Fletcher won a Stanley Cup with the Calgary Flames in 1989 and later brought the Leafs back to relevance in the early 1990s as the architect of what was arguably the most impactful trade in the franchise history.
The Muskegon Lumberjacks are saying thank you and good luck moving forward to Ty Bergeron as he moves on in his hockey career 🪓
