My dad’s experience of dying - a thread of edited excerpts (without the medical jargon!) from my 2020 response here: https://t.co/pMchmBNRn4 He desperately wanted the opportunity to choose to die on his terms - I promised to share his story in support of #AssistedDying ❤️ 1/14
@juliaisobela@GLADDUK Congratulations 🥂 - really impressed by the fantastic work of all the @GLADDUK team. It’s gone from strength to strength & clearly is in fabulous hands 😎👏🏳️🌈🏳️⚧️
@sally_hines@WarpFilms@BBC An incredible piece of television history - remains chilling and prescient to this day and I can’t imagine the impact it would have had when it was first aired. 👏 to your dad x
@ManningOfficial@SawbonesHex Your latest @bigfinish together was *fabulous* 👏 Iris as Sixie & Sixie as Iris - some impressive accent work me chucks 🤣
@lewis_goodall@TheNewsAgents 🤣 The acid test for me is the fact my kids enjoy watching the show & love Ncuti’s doctor - as well as Millie and Varada’s companions who they can relate to in different ways. Hugely nostalgic Saturday night TV as a geriatric millennial fan 👴🏻
@ChrisChapman81 Best of luck Chris - a v special doc re an incredible man & the horrors of the AIDS epidemic in 80s & 90s. Many tears shed! Meant so much to those of us in LGBTQ community who came after 🏳️🌈🏳️⚧️. The love from @thenicolabryant was palpable & connection to RTD & #ItsASin ❤️ Bravo 👏
@MhairiHunter Transphobia codified... What do trans women do in interim even if this was practical? Who polices ‘womanly’ appearance? What happens to butch/non gender confirming cis women inevitably harmed by this? Trans men born women can/should use the women’s single sex facilities then? 👎
@ShaunLintern Depressing window into sexist, racist & homophobic behaviour that has no place in NHS. Some senior colleagues believe they’re so important they’ll never be held to account and act with impunity. How are these people revalidated? What would happen to non medics behaving like this?

It’s important that GP colleagues engage with this new survey. My strong view is that College should - like nearly all others & @TheBMA - be neutral on the topic of a change in the law on #AssistedDying. There’s no other way to accurately reflect plurality of views 🧵 below 👇
Thanks to the 8,300+ of you who’ve already responded to our survey on assisted dying.
If you haven’t yet seen the survey link, please search in the email account that is listed on your ‘My RCGP’ member account, and for an email from: [email protected].
Also critical @rcgp are clear *in advance* of what criteria will be used to assess the result. Last time we had:
❌ 47% oppose
✅ 40% support
❔ 11% neutral
Yet somehow this was interpreted as a mandate to remain opposed…
Lack of clear majority should = neutrality
