The Partick Thistle teenagers, aged 18 and 16, qualify through their mother, who was born in Uganda, and have already been invited into the country’s U20 and U17 training camps. Uganda U20 coach Laryea Kingston has told them they could become the first white players to represent the nation.

Seb is targeting a place at November’s U17 World Cup in Qatar, while Olly hopes to feature at the U20 AFCON if Uganda qualify.

49: THE STRUCTURE HAS FINISHED CURING.

Today I turn 49. Apparently, this is the age when people begin whispering, “Fifty is the new forty,” with suspicious urgency. I refuse the panic. Forty-nine looks good on me, perhaps because ambition has been doing the skincare.

I have gathered degrees, children, businesses, books, scars, friendships and lessons that charged full consultancy fees. Some opportunities I managed brilliantly. Others I managed like a government project - delayed, over budget and defended with an impressive PowerPoint presentation. Yet grace kept renewing the contract.

So here is my manifesto for Year 49. I will build more than buildings. I will build industries, institutions, engineers, enterprises and ideas strong enough to outlive their founder. I will turn African materials into wealth, minerals into beauty, research into factories and stubborn questions into national policy. Africa has heard enough motivational speeches, she needs production lines.

I will protect my faith, family, health and peace with the seriousness of national infrastructure. I will work hard without worshipping exhaustion, fight only battles worthy of my energy, laugh more loudly and stop presenting large dreams to committees permanently committed to small thinking.

May God gather every blessing from the past 49 years, redeem every opportunity I mismanaged, recover everything the devil stole, and deliver it all -- restored, multiplied and overflowing -- into this new year of my life.

The first 49 years were the curing period. The structure has reached design strength. Now, let us load it.

If it wasn’t for my response, you wouldn’t have talked about this matter in a federation you lead.

In fact, I haven’t heard you in a long time talking about local football. We’ve not been talking about the foreign leagues since June but neither have we heard FUFA talking about the direction of local football including AFCON 2027.

World Cup came & went & we didn’t hear you. AFCON is near the corner, & you can drop a pin & it will be louder than you telling Ugandans about what’s happening or going to happen about it. How ready is Uganda visa vis the other PAMOJA organizers & we’re numb.

Somehow, you will accuse us of supporting foreign leagues. A player was murdered. I didn’t hear a single word from you. You didn’t even attend burial. You sent a representative but you even failed to call for a press conference later.

Somehow, the foreign leagues must be blamed instead of your incompetence. Come on, we’re mature people. Give up & let someone who can overturn this conundrum come up.

The Uganda Medical Association (UMA) has announced industrial action over the ongoing welfare and deployment crisis affecting medical interns and the wider medical profession.

Doctors have given government 14 days to provide clear, written and satisfactory commitments on the deployment and facilitation of medical interns.

If government fails to act, doctors across Uganda will commence industrial action.

Dear football,
