In 1990, Land Rover rebranded its 110 and 90 models as the "Defender," and it became an icon of British motoring. This 1990 vehicle is one of the earliest Defender models, and 35 years later, it remains in service as a Rapid Intervention Vehicle at Rochester Airport in Kent.

WMFS ERF TL UVP 98S with ladders from the former Wolverhampton Leyland Firemaster. The chassis, one of the last ERF*s to be built, was in stock at ERF. WMFS Transport staff led a project to buy the chassis and have the ladders from 9990 DA transferred to it. @WMFSHeritage @WMFS

The ladder set from 9990 DA was subsequently remounted on an ERF 84PS chassis and re-entered service at A1 Birmingham Central and, later, D2 Brierley Hill fire stations. The ERF was registered UVP 98S. A pic of this machine is in a further post. @WMFSHeritage @WMFS

The original Hales St station was opened on 9 October 1902 by the city's Mayor. The 3 bay extension to the building was opened on 27 December 1934. @WMFSHeritage

Coventry's Central Fire Station in Hales Street was originally built with just the three righthand appliance bays. The three lefthand bays were added at a later date. This explains the difference in roof tiles and the dormer roof at the lefthand side. @WMFSHeritage

Florida: 3 firefighters and 12 train passengers were hurt when a train hit a fire truck on a crossing. Local reports say that the driver of the truck, that was responding to a call, waited for one train and then drove around the barrier arms, only to be hit by a high-speed train.

Founded in 1933 as a manufacturer of lorries, ERF started to build fire appliances in 1966 and continued until 1982, re-entering the market in 1996 it was acquired by MAN Trucks who discontinued the ERF marque in 2007. Pictured is a 1972 ERF WrT from Tynemouth Fire Brigade.

Worcester's 12 hour wholetime/12 hour on-call pump mobile to an incident this afternoon. The station's third pump was one of seven on-call second and third pumps recently withdrawn following a 'resource review.'
