@davido Back when producers made identifiable beats, not the recent loop-obsessed ti-ti-ka-ti industry. You played your part too. Dami Duro and that Skeleton song still bangs!!!
You can’t directly compare them, each has merits. In untreated rooms, headphones can help judge spatial processors but may skew imaging; however, a near-field setup is a widely accepted industry practice. ☂️
Spot the difference 👇
A compressor is like your MUM;
TV gets too loud: the THRESHOLD is the level that triggers her, the RATIO is how hard she shouts, the ATTACK is how fast she reacts, and the RELEASE is how long she keeps complaining.
9. If you were asked to explain compression to a noob how would you go about that? You can’t refer them to a YouTube video or Book you have to use your words.
In a professional setting, vocals tracked through a preamp and compressor might need just one instantiation, but most times serial compression with different attack/release adjustments can create results that feel like you used different compressors.
1. You’re in a weird DAW that has only one compressor. You’re being paid to level these vocals. What would your compression settings look like? Would you go serial or just compress with one instance of compression?
@askaboutsewa A band once threw a concert.
Nobody came.
Except one woman walking her dog.
They performed like it was sold out.
She later connected them to the right people.
That band became The Rolling Stones.
The most expensive thing in music isn’t studio time. It’s quitting. ☂️
@JonnDeux@jessealordiah Stock plugins are versatile, but you can’t match the tonal character of a PIE Comp to a FabFilter Pro-C.
Certain compressors are logarithmic while some are linear.
In support of your opinion, once you know the difference you can work with any comp. ☂️

@tumza_14194@Chymamusique MIXING is building the house:
Every block (foundation, walls, rooms) must fit perfectly for strength & balance.
MASTERING is finishing the compound:
Paint, fence, drainage, and final touches that protect it and make it durable/strong.
