A compressor is like your MUM;

TV gets too loud: the THRESHOLD is the level that triggers her, the RATIO is how hard she shouts, the ATTACK is how fast she reacts, and the RELEASE is how long she keeps complaining.

In a professional setting, vocals tracked through a preamp and compressor might need just one instantiation, but most times serial compression with different attack/release adjustments can create results that feel like you used different compressors.

@JonnDeux @jessealordiah Stock plugins are versatile, but you can’t match the tonal character of a PIE Comp to a FabFilter Pro-C.

Certain compressors are logarithmic while some are linear.

In support of your opinion, once you know the difference you can work with any comp. ☂️
