@Lunayian I don't think they plan to keep current avatars around for very long. Also the they don't plan to develop the SDK anymore, they said V40 is the final release. And having used this SDK a lot - I really don't think they just decided it's perfect and there's nothing to improve.
@Lunayian Well I guess they would work fine in mixed reality apps where real world is the background, but if it's a VR app/game with simple graphics they would be rather jarring imo.
Maybe one day they'll release another avatar SDK
@Lunayian Seems like meta is moving away from cartoony avatars more and more. I wonder what's their plan, codec avatars will definitely be a big part of it, but they don't really fit in games with simplified graphics
@NimaZeighami@benz145 Thanks for pointing it out! I wasn't aware of it.
In terms of viable use cases it doesn't seem like it changes things too much though.
If anyone's curious about the details of those optics, @GuttagKarl wrote an article on it

@benz145 And if the use case is closer to "sit at the table and look at virtual screens in something between glasses and headset" then Meta is going to have the phoenix headset. I'd bet in terms of customers served phoenix closer to Aura than Orion.
@benz145 I'm not quite sure those aim to serve similar customers. Aura uses birdbath optics. Those aren't really glasses you can walk around with everywhere.
Orion might be a bit bulky and draw a bit of attention, but that's it, you can use it and mostly forget it's there.
@UploadVR Glad to see you posting again @Heaney555 🙂 I missed your articles, and especially VR download!
Regarding the article, it's not so important when objects are far away from drone, but I really hope we'll see a version of this live with stereoscopic 360
@cyannick Nice! I'll have to try it out then :) trying other runtimes on windows I would often end up with some issues where the runtime would have notable differences from running .APK na quest or quest link, curious how it stacks up
