Probably wouldn't walk barefoot through this either, but at least you could with less of a chance of tetanus. Culverts with more natural streambed-like bottoms are better overall for fish migration and especially for lamprey. 9/9
It's #GarWeek / #AncientFishesWeek, and we're taking a look at lamprey first. One thing to know about lamprey for this set of stories is that they are not strong swimmers, compared to other fish, and they cannot jump. Their suction-cup mouths help pull them upstream. 1/9
Probably the biggest difference between sturgeon and other fish species in our rivers is the fact that sturgeon have lifespans far more similar to humans than most other fish. A sturgeon can live to be more than a hundred years old.
