How does this pass as science when you won’t acknowledge how horrifically traumatic homelessness is?
Having worked with homeless guys and volunteered in soup kitchens for years, the trauma is palpable - constantly.

These human beings are living without any access to basic safety, shelter, food or water. They are frightened. They are angry. They are lost. They usually have long histories of trauma - whether that’s child abuse or trauma from military service where our govt just dropped them on their ass after they ‘served their country’.

Being homeless and becoming street homeless is terrifying. It’s violent and messy. It’s being robbed. It’s being given drugs. It’s being assaulted. It’s having kids throw milkshakes at you for a laugh. It’s people avoiding you in the street. It’s being forced to move on constantly. It’s being dirty and smelly and struggling with your teeth falling out and cracking. Being desperate to find somewhere to sleep where your shit won’t get nicked.

Then it’s the drugs, the alcohol, the coping mechanisms, the cycles of violence and fear and abuse. For women, it’s trafficking, sexual exploitation, rape and abuse.

I worked in an area that were rolling out nurses to street homeless men to give them antidepressants on the streets. Not a home. Oh no. Of course not. That’s far too much work. But a pack of antidepressants? Sure.

It baffles me that anyone can sit there and be like, ‘hmmm, why do all these people seem to be struggling with their mental health? Why is it so common? Maybe they are all just mentally ill!? Maybe that’s why they are homeless!’

Before everyone starts suggesting that maybe Kyle Clifford was ‘suffering from mental health issues’ which ‘caused him’ to tie up and shoot three women, let me shoot some facts here:

1. There is not a single mental disorder listed or described in the DSM which states that it causes murder

2. Not a single mental health charity would put their name to a public statement which stated that MH was associated with committing murder - in fact they would probably do the opposite

3. Men kill women because they want to

4. Men kill women because they get something out of it

5. Men kill women because of their misogyny and male entitlement

6. Men kill women because they enjoy it

7. Men kill women because we do absolutely nothing about the toxic, abusive, misogynistic, pro-violence and pro-abuse society we raise them in

8. Men kill women because there are virtually zero consequences and less than 2% conviction rate for domestic and sexual violence crimes

People only claim men who murder are mentally ill for TWO reasons:

1. To defend the suspect legally, in order to claim insanity, so charges or sentences can be lessened

2. To psychologically distance ourselves from their actions, so no one has to accept that this is a social and systemic problem of violence and abuse - and we can all go on pretending that it was another ‘one-off’ caused by ‘mental illness’
