A common criticism of the F-35 is that it carries fewer weapons internally than many 4th/4.5+ gen fighters.

But that's the point. The F-35's designers prioritized something else 🤯

In a high-threat environment, the F-35 carries ~5,200 lb of weapons internally, which helps preserving its low RCS and allowing it to penetrate heavily defended enemy airspace (STEALTH).

After SEAD/DEAD ops degrade enemy air defenses, it can transition into a much heavier strike configuration carrying up to ~18,000 lb of ordnance.

So, the F-35 wasn't designed to carry the most weapons on Day 1. It was actually designed to survive Day 1.
