And the allegations go WAY beyond selling weed.

State Senator Louise Lucas, 82, has been charged alongside six others, including family members, in a federal investigation involving drug distribution, money laundering and corruption.

Prosecutors allege she used her political influence to protect the operation and push legislation that benefited her business.

Here's the extraordinary part.

Lucas helped champion marijuana legalization in Virginia while allegedly running an illegal distribution operation herself.

The woman wasn't some obscure local politician. She's the president pro tempore of the Virginia Senate and chairs its powerful Finance Committee.

Federal prosecutors have effectively accused a top state lawmaker of using the very government she helps run to protect a family drug enterprise.

Lucas denies wrongdoing and says the investigation is politically motivated.

Concerned residents packed the Utah County Planning Commission meeting on Tuesday after it unanimously approved a widely unpopular data center ordinance without allowing public comment.

Police quickly moved on concerned residents – including swarming one young woman, dragging her out of the room, and slamming her onto the ground. The woman was left with a concussion and a bruised and swollen jaw. She spent the night in the ER after being released from jail.

An emergency rally was called for Wednesday in response to the brutality. Community members are demanding the termination, arrest, and prosecution of the offending officer – identified as Phil Crawford.
