My Dear Fellow Ugandans,
Brothers and Sisters, goodmorng to all of you. This message is for all Ugandans, including those in the opposition and everyone who uses online platforms.I want to appeal to all of us to be careful with how we use social media.Attacking fellow Ugandans, writing toxic comments, insulting people, or posting false information on their personal or company pages is not the Uganda we want to build.
We are all Ugandans.
We all have the right to hold different political opinions. It is not possible for every Ugandan to support one political party or one political leader. We will always have people who support the government and people who support the opposition. That is #democracy .
Our political differences should not make us enemies.President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni @KagutaMuseveni is a politician. Our opposition leader, Mr. Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu @HEBobiwine , is also a politician.Once someone chooses politics, criticism and disagreement will come. But criticism should not turn into hatred, harassment, threats, or personal abuse.
If we want to see a better Uganda, we must learn to disagree with respect. My brothers and sisters, if you say you are fighting dictatorship, then you must also respect freedom of speech.People must be free to support whoever they choose.People must be free to criticize, and to express their opinions peacefully. You cannot promise Ugandans freedom and at the same time attack them because they support a different political party.
We have seen Ugandans abroad being attacked because of their political views. We have seen cases involving our brother and sister, like #Benita and #Steef .This is not right. They are Ugandans too. They have families, dignity, and the same rights as everyone else.
Attacking NRM supporters abroad will not change the government.Attacking opposition supporters will not change the government either.Governments are changed through ideas, good leadership, dialogue, organization, patience, and through the democratic process. Not through hatred and attacks against fellow citizens.
Let us also remember this. Even if Mr. Robert Kyagulanyi becomes President of Uganda, he will not satisfy every Ugandan. No president can. There will always be people who disagree, and that disagreement must be respected.
The same applies to President Museveni and any other leader.Leaders can be criticized when needed. But, the criticism should be about policies, leadership, decisions, and performance.
Not insults against individuals, families, or supporters.
Uganda needs leaders who unite people.
Leaders who protect freedom of expression.
Leaders who encourage discipline and respect every citizen, no matter their political affiliation.
Our brothers and sisters abroad are also doing a great job for Uganda.
Many are supporting families, investing, building businesses, helping communities, and sending money home.We should not create an environment where Ugandans abroad fear or hate each other because of politics.
Let us remember that before we are NRM, before we are opposed, before we support any politician, we are Ugandans first.
Let us disagree without hatred.
Let us debate without insults.
Let us criticize without attacking.
Let us support our leaders without attacking those who disagree with us.
Political leaders will come and go, but Uganda will remain ours.
Let us protect our unity.
Let us protect our culture.
Let us protect our dignity and our future.
God bless Uganda.
God bless all Ugandans wherever they are in the world. πΊπ¬
