Chandigarh: Punjab BJP leader Surjit Kumar Jyani says, "Incidents have also taken place in Chandigarh. Even police stations in Punjab are not safe. There are cases of murders, assaults, and ransom demands. Law and order in the state is not under control. How can the police work effectively when a police station that requires 80 personnel has only 7 or 8 staff members? When democratic norms are compromised, the usual chorus of self-appointed guardians of democracy is expected to demand answers.

But when the party facing serious questions is AAP, the silence is deafening.

In Abohar, despite the BJP being the single largest party with 28 councillors, the AAP candidate was declared Mayor after a secret ballot that has now come under a cloud. Serious allegations have been raised: an unexplained postponement of the election, no video recording of the ballot counting, and claims that the Returning Officer simply announced the result without any transparent verification before attempting to leave.

If even a fraction of these allegations had surfaced in a BJP-ruled state, there would have been wall-to-wall outrage, press conferences, editorials, and lectures on the “murder of democracy.”

So where are the usual suspects now? Where are the activists, commentators, and opposition leaders who never miss an opportunity to sermonise on democratic values?

Democracy cannot have different standards for different political parties. If transparency matters, it must matter irrespective of who is in power. The people of Punjab deserve answers, not selective outrage.

Thank you, Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, for reissuing the funds to Punjab after the money allocated by the central government for roads had lapsed due to the AAP government in Punjab not being able to utilize it on time. This central assistance of ₹814 crore will help strengthen Punjab’s road infrastructure. The Punjab government should also ensure that the work is completed as soon as possible using the funds received from the center.

ਸਪੈਸ਼ਲ ਵਿਧਾਨ ਸਭਾ ਸੈਸ਼ਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਲੜੀ ਵਿੱਚ ਅੱਜ ਇੱਕ ਹੋਰ ਕੜੀ ਜੁੜਨ ਜਾ ਰਹੀ ਹੈ। ਪਰ ਇਸ ਦਾ ਪੰਜਾਬ ਨੂੰ ਕੀ ਫਾਇਦਾ। ਸਰਕਾਰ ਰਾਜ ਵਿੱਚ ਵਿਗੜ ਰਹੀ ਅਮਨ ਕਾਨੂੰਨ ਦੀ ਸਥਿਤੀ ਤੇ ਚਰਚਾ ਕਰਦੀ ਤਾਂ ਬਿਹਤਰ ਹੁੰਦਾ। ਜੇਕਰ ਰਾਜ ਵਿੱਚ ਅਮਨ ਸ਼ਾਂਤੀ ਹੋਵੇਗੀ ਤਾਂ ਹੀ ਲੋਕ ਕੰਮ ਕਰਨਗੇ। ਦੂਸਰਾ ਸਰਕਾਰ ਆਪਣੇ ਮੰਤਰੀਆਂ ਸੰਤਰੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਬਚਾਉਣ ਲਈ ਨਰੇਗਾ ਵਿੱਚ ਹੋਏ ਭ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਟਾਚਾਰ ਦੀ ਜਾਂਚ ਕਿਉਂ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰਵਾ ਰਹੀ। ਕੀ ਵਿਧਾਨ ਸਭਾ ਵਿੱਚ ਮੁੱਖ ਮੰਤਰੀ ਭਗਵੰਤ ਮਾਨ ਜੀ ਇਹ ਵੀ ਦੱਸਣਗੇ।
ਹਰੇਕ ਮੰਚ ਤੇ ਪੰਜਾਬ ਦੇ ਭਰੇ ਖਜ਼ਾਨੇ ਦੀ ਗੱਲ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਮੁੱਖ ਮੰਤਰੀ ਭਗਵੰਤ ਮਾਨ ਦੀ ਸਰਕਾਰ ਲਈ ਵੀ ਇੱਕ ਮੌਕਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਉਹ ਗਰੀਬਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਹੁਣ ਇੱਕ 100 ਦੀ ਬਜਾਏ 125 ਦਿਨ ਰੁਜ਼ਗਾਰ ਮੁਹਈਆ ਕਰਵਾਕੇ ਗਰੀਬਾਂ ਦੀ ਸੱਚੀ ਹਮਦਰਦ ਹੋਣ ਦਾ ਸਬੂਤ ਦੇਵੇ। ਜੇਕਰ ਉਹ ਵਾਕਿਆ ਹੀ ਗਰੀਬਾਂ ਦੇ ਹਿਤੈਸ਼ੀ ਹਨ ਤਾਂ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਭਾਰਤ ਦੇ ਪ੍ਰਧਾਨਮੰਤਰੀ ਸ੍ਰੀ ਨਰਿੰਦਰ ਮੋਦੀ ਜੀ ਪ੍ਰਤੀ ਧੰਨਵਾਦ ਦਾ ਮਤਾ ਵੀ ਲਿਆਉਣਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ ਹੈ l

Another chapter is set to be added today to the series of special sessions of the Legislative Assembly. But what benefit will this bring to Punjab? It would have been better if the government had discussed the deteriorating law and order situation in the state instead. Only if there is peace and stability in the state will people be able to work. Secondly, why is the government not ordering an inquiry into the corruption that has taken place in NREGA, merely to protect its ministers and aides? Will Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann also clarify this in the Assembly?

For the government of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, which repeatedly speaks on every platform about Punjab’s full treasury, this is also an opportunity to prove its genuine concern for the poor by providing 125 days of employment instead of 100. And the government should pass a resolution thanking the Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi for making that possible by making the required amendments to the law
