Like you said, not every tiny detail needs a big explanation, but the question of why the scanner was made in the first place is foundational to the world, it gives the story a reason to exist.

@Gr33ngamestone @wendegogo You answered your own question. Not everything shown needs to be for characters, it can be just for the audience. Answering the questions of why they made the brain scanner or the circus helps make the story feel more grounded which makes the audience care more about the world.

@KillaMinga The sound team is more to blame than the actors and ballistics people. She is pressing the release but they make it sound like she's pulling the bolt. In another scene Jim is shooting a revolver and you hear shells hit the ground.

@coffindwellers That only works when you give people a reason to be attached to the character. When you make everyone hate him, it's not upsetting or sad, it's just anticlimactic and disappointing

If it was just the quick idea of pain she would've quickly calmed down, but she flailed around and yelled during the whole shot. @ShionCEO Average twitter commenter has zero understanding of character design. Everything about the design should tell you something about them, anything that doesn't is just noise. Even tattoos without a big backstory can show you a bit about them, like what made them think it's cool.
