"मैं कूड़े के ढेर से कोई बच्ची नहीं उठाकर लाया था, मैं तो एक हीरा घर लेकर आया था।"

यह किसी फिल्म की कहानी नहीं, बल्कि एक प्रेरणादायक घटना के रूप में सुनाई जाने वाली कहानी है। असम के सोबरन नामक एक 30 वर्षीय युवक सब्ज़ी बेचकर अपना गुज़ारा करता था। उसकी शादी नहीं हुई थी।

एक शाम काम से लौटते समय उसे सड़क किनारे झाड़ियों के पास एक मासूम बच्ची के रोने की आवाज़ सुनाई दी। जब वह वहाँ पहुँचा, तो उसने देखा कि एक नवजात बच्ची कूड़े के ढेर के पास लावारिस अवस्था में पड़ी हुई थी। आसपास कोई नहीं था।
सोबरन उस मासूम को वहाँ छोड़ नहीं सका। वह उसे अपने घर ले आया और उसी दिन फैसला कर लिया कि अब यही बच्ची उसकी दुनिया होगी। उसने उसका नाम ज्योति रखा।

उसने अपनी शादी का विचार छोड़ दिया और पूरी ज़िंदगी ज्योति की परवरिश में लगा दी। दिन-रात मेहनत करके उसने उसे पढ़ाया-लिखाया, उसकी हर ज़रूरत पूरी की। कई बार खुद भूखा रह गया, लेकिन अपनी बेटी को कभी किसी चीज़ की कमी महसूस नहीं होने दी।

ज्योति ने 2013 में कंप्यूटर साइंस में डिग्री हासिल की। इसके बाद उसने प्रतियोगी परीक्षाओं की तैयारी की और 2014 में लोक सेवा आयोग की परीक्षा पास कर आयकर विभाग में असिस्टेंट कमिश्नर के पद पर नियुक्त हुई।

जब सोबरन ने अपनी बेटी को इस मुकाम तक पहुँचते देखा, तो उनकी आँखों से खुशी के आँसू छलक पड़े। जिस सफलता का सपना वह स्वयं कभी पूरा नहीं कर सके, वही सपना उनकी बेटी ने साकार कर दिखाया।

आज ज्योति अपने पिता की हर ज़िम्मेदारी निभाती है। उसने कई बार उनसे सब्ज़ी बेचने का काम छोड़ने को कहा, लेकिन सोबरन आज भी ईमानदारी से अपना वही काम करते हैं।

मीडिया से बातचीत में उन्होंने कहा:

"मैं कूड़े के ढेर से कोई बच्ची नहीं उठाकर लाया था, मैं तो एक हीरा घर लेकर आया था। वह मेरी ज़िंदगी की रोशनी है।"

सनातन के असल चेहरे सोबरन भाई जैसे लोग ही हैं!
