Delighted that Food Train is undertaking our biggest nutrition screening exercise during October helping Scotland understand how many #OlderPeople are at risk of #Malnutrition#LetsBuildThePicture
Thank you to Foysol Choudhury MSP @FoysolChoudhury for visiting Food Train West Lothian and hearing about the work we do to support older people. @FoodTrainScot
WHY DO WE NEED TO BUILD THE PICTURE? (Thread)
It's estimated 1 in 10 older people in Scotland are at risk or living with #malnutrition.
However, from our prevalence data, this may be an underestimate, with as many as 20 - 30% of older people living at home at risk.
We are delighted to have launched our Malnutrition Advice Line for those aged 65+ living in #Scotland.
Open from 9am - 4pm on Mondays, Wednesdays & Fridays.

Our screening figures suggest #malnutrition has increased amongst older adults
Yet, it can be easily identified by an untrained member of the community using the @PatientsAssoc Nutrition Checklist or the @PArmband

@EatWellScot https://t.co/acEBrT2sLa insecurity measurement tools do not capture older people’s experiences as they concentrate primarily on financial constraints. Food access for older people is not just a financial issue therefore it is important that other aspects are looked at. #EWAWChat
@EatWellScot A4.The relationship between social conditions and population eating patterns is important. When planning interventions around food, social and wellbeing aspects should always be considered whether we are looking at under or overweight malnutrition #EWAWChat@EatWellScot
@EatWellScot A3. A lot of research has shown that social isolation can be associated with a reduced appetite, lower food intake, less physical activity and a greater risk of undernutrition among older people. #EWAWChat@EatWellScot
