X (FORMERLY TWITTER) PROTECTING HATE
Hello everyone on X (formerly Twitter), I'm Diego, and I'm here to share a story for you to assess the real problem with X in Brazil.
The Brazilian Constitution and the Civil Code state that any company wishing to do business and make money in Brazil must have a legal representative, who is responsible for the company's actions. Twitter has always had a legal representative in Brazil. With Elon Musk's acquisition, this continued. However, recently, he decided there would no longer be one here in Brazil.
One of the reasons for this is to support accounts that spew hate in a vile and repugnant manner. Let me give you a recent example: one of the biggest comedians @MarceloAdnet in this country received hate messages against his 3-year-old daughter. Someone hiding behind a profile said they would turn his daughter into a prostitute.
There are countless examples of people who, behind an account on this platform, commit crimes against honor, and X wants to protect them. Sexual harassment, racism, and even the glorification of Nazism (which is strictly prohibited in Brazil), among other things, are among the most repugnant and disgusting behaviors displayed by human beings.
In every possible way, the Supreme Federal Court (STF), through Minister Alexandre de Moraes @alexandre, has tried to be conciliatory and lenient, giving deadlines upon deadlines to resolve the situation. Yet, @elonmusk, in his arrogance and ignorance, refused to comply.
There have even been attacks against the President of Brazil @LulaOficial and the Brazilian Supreme Court Minister, with the intent to distort what is happening here in Brazil regarding X.
Brazil is friendly and diplomatic and maintains good relations with the entire world. In return, it asks for the same fraternity. Mr. Musk, just allow Brazilian justice to do its job. Here in Brazil, we are all free, but along with rights, we have duties, and when we exceed our rights, we will be held accountable, just like anywhere else in the world. This is something you refuse to accept.
It is the platform's duty to provide a space where everyone has the right to free speech, and it is the platform's duty to ensure that those who go too far (and in this case are repugnant) are punished for their actions.
Don't distort the facts, and don't act cowardly.
