India's Massive Historical Rice Inventory of 2026 - 720 Lakh MTs

1) India is holding the highest April rice inventory in its history, with April 2026 FCI-related rice stocks at 720 LMT

2) This stock is higher than the combined stock position of 2018 and 2019.

3) This is approx. double the annual production of Indonesia, 2.5 times of year production of Vietnam and 3 times the production of Thailand – And this much rice is just stock in India

4) The current stockpile is large enough to potentially absorb the shock of even two consecutive El Niño years without creating an immediate domestic rice shortage.

5) This much rice stock has never been seen before in Indian history, and it means that India does not have to worry about food inflation even if our upcoming crops yield get impacted reasonably

6) Further it poses bigger threat to farmers as such huge rice inventory can impact corn and wheat prices in -ve way
