Emil Dykal, 95, passed peacefully on November 12, 2020 at his home in Independence, MO. He was laid to rest this afternoon at Mound Grove Cemetery. Emil served as Sugar Creek's Fire Chief for 24yrs, spanning from 1964-1988.

Sugar Creek Fire and Police Departments assisted Missouri Highway Patrol with the recovery on the Missouri River at LeBenite Park and thus the early closure of the park Sunday evening.
Sugar Creek Police are handling the investigation.

At approximately 0403, SCFD Pumper 1 was dispatched to the 12000 block of Felton for a fire in the basement of a residential structure. Initial arriving crew was able make a quick interior attack, containing the fire to two basement rooms. All residents are safe. Fire out at 0417

Tomorrow, July 1, Eastern Jackson County will be moving into Phase 2.5 of the recovery plan. Phase 2.5 allows in-person instruction at schools, playgrounds to reopen, and increased outdoor gathering limits to 100 people. It also includes guidance about the new mask order.

Effective Wednesday, July 1, all persons inside public buildings must wear a face covering. The mask order extends to public outdoor settings. This change is in response to a continued increase of COVID-19 cases in Jackson County and the surrounding area.
