BREAKING 🚨 Two mosques in Minneapolis, Minnesota were set on fire two days apart. Suspect still to be found.
One day after someone started a fire in a bathroom of a south Minneapolis mosque, another fire was set on the third floor of a different mosque less than a mile away.
This should NEVER happen ANYWHERE! Freedom of religion is one of the most personal liberties we have as individuals & as a country. It should be respected as such. #Respect
Doctors at a major US insurance company deny tens of thousands of claims a month without even looking at patients’ files.
“We literally click & submit,” a former Cigna doctor told @ProPublica & @Capitol_Forum. “It takes all of 10 seconds to do 50 at a time.”
The inside story 🧵
Cigna uses an automated system that allows “medical directors” (doctors employed by @Cigna) to deny a claim in 1.2 seconds without opening the patient’s file.
Please read this, share it, and help us (metaphorically) burn these companies to the ground.
I opposed the whitewashing of our history curriculum at tonight’s @VDOE_News hearing. Knowing our complete history, how it has shaped our country, and how its legacy affects us is key to helping our kids embrace the opportunities & address the challenges we face now.
State Sen. Nathan Dahm (R-OK) has penned several bills loosening gun restrictions, including the nation’s first anti-red flag law. He thinks these bills protect the Second Amendment – and that they make us safer. We think it's probably one or the other. Watch it on @AppleTVPlus.
March = Women's History Month. While we salute sacrifices & triumphs of women, we must acknowledge that women still don't have agency over their own bodies, don't get equal pay for equal work, and can't even get recognized in the Constitution through the Equal Rights Amendment.
Once Aetna did a similar thing with cataracts last year, you knew all of them would try to jump on the universal prior auth bandwagon. And as long as they have an unlimited supply of ghoulish, non practicing physicians willing to deny evidence based medical care, they won’t stop.
The @ahahospitals is opposing removal of non-compete clauses “on behalf of 270,000 affiliated physicians.” Something tells me they didn’t ask for physician input on this. Feel free to let the AHA know your thoughts. @FTC
Christians in Delhi are protesting against the rise of hate crimes - Since 2014, there has four times increase in hate crimes against Christians in India. https://t.co/BIdiO7kCo1 via @thewire_in
Certificate of Need laws exist to keep independent doctors and entrepreneurs out of the loop of ownership.
Want to start an imaging Center?
How about a rural hospital?
Wait, I’d like to start an ASC?
In 35 states that’s a big nope.
The residency cap is a federal law that limits the number of residency positions that can be funded by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS).
The cap was last increased in 1997 and has not kept pace with the growing demand for medical residency positions in the United States.
The residency cap does contribute to the lack of physicians and the higher costs of healthcare.
Here are 3 reasons why:
Limits the number of doctors being trained: With a cap on residency positions, there are only a limited number of slots available for medical school graduates to continue their training.
This means that many qualified medical school graduates are unable to complete the necessary training to become fully licensed doctors.
Some say as many as 7,500 individuals per year graduate from medical school and do not match for residency slots.
Limits the number of doctors available to serve patients: The shortage of residency positions means that there are fewer doctors available to serve patients, particularly in underserved areas. This can lead to longer wait times, decreased access to care, and higher costs for patients who may have to travel further or seek care at more expensive facilities.
Contributes to higher healthcare costs: With a shortage of doctors, particularly in primary care, patients may be more likely to seek care at emergency rooms or urgent care facilities. This can drive up the cost of care, as emergency care is typically more expensive than primary care.
Every physician who sells their practice to private equity is choosing to make health care worse for everybody. I hope the money helps you sleep at night, because you have made life worse for every single patient and employee walking into your PE Daddy’s practice.
As Americans die because they can't afford the medications they need, 5 of the largest drug companies in the U.S. made nearly $80 billion in profits last year alone.
As chairman of the HELP Committee, my promise to you is that we're going to take on their greed.
