Doubling and halving is a great strategy to multiply mentally. For the problem 16x19, we can halve 16 and double 19, giving us the problem 8x38. We can again halve 8 and double 38, giving us the problem 4x76. Yet again, we can halve 4 and double 76, giving us 2x152.
Ask your student about their choice board for this week. Activities can be completed in class and worked on at home. Each student is expected to complete their points by Friday!

Estimating is a great way to check for reasonableness. For 32 x 28, we can estimate the product by rounding both factors to 30. Since 30 x 30 equals 900, we can check to see if our answer makes sense after we complete our work. #mentalmathmonday
