It was a privilege to engage with delegates, researchers & conservation champions from around the world at the @RCMRD_ booth, where we showcased how geospatial technologies, Earth observation & marine ecosystem data are supporting evidence-based ocean governance.#OurOceanKenya
As #OOC11 comes to a close, the conversations this week reaffirmed that achieving #30x30 target & protecting the High Seas requires more than ambition; it requires data. Reliable information is essential for informed decision-making, effective conservation & measuring progress.
📢Upcoming Webinar Alert: Advancing Land Degradation Neutrality in Africa
Land degradation continues to threaten livelihoods, food security, and ecosystems across Africa. In response to this growing challenge, the RCMRD will host a webinar under the GEO-LDN Initiative focused on strengthening capacity for monitoring and reporting on Land Degradation Neutrality (LDN) and SDG 15.3.1.

Biodiversity data means nothing without the systems, collaboration, and political will to act on it. This conversation connects the dots.
#Biodiveristy#DataForConservation#GeoConnect
Data alone doesn't change the world — how we use it does.
From field observations to national policy, this conversation unpacks how biodiversity data is shaping real conservation action across Eastern and Southern Africa.
In this video, we explore:
1. How countries translate spatial data into updated National Biodiversity Strategies and Action Plans (NBSAPs)
2. The role of geospatial insights in reporting to the Convention on Biological Diversity
3. Tracking progress under the Kunming–Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework
4. Why harmonized data systems and regional collaboration are critical
5. The persistent gaps from capacity to interoperability and timely reporting
As the demand for evidence-based decision-making grows, so does the need for data that is accessible, standardized, and trusted.

🚨 World reaches a major milestone for nature at sea!🌊
10.01% of the ocean is now officially within protected and conserved areas. This update to the World Database on Protected and Conserved Areas (WDPCA) is a vital step toward Target 3 of #KMGBF. https://t.co/5I0fzw4zhG
A major step forward for global conservation data. The new WDPCA strengthens transparency, improves tracking of KMGBF Target 3, and supports smarter, evidence-based biodiversity action.
🚨 Protected Planet has launched the World Database on Protected and Conserved Areas (WDPCA) - a new and unified database, merging the World Database on Protected Areas & the World Database on Other Effective Area-based Conservation Measures!

Our week has kicked off on a high note! Today, we had the honour of presenting a copy of the RCoE-ESA Map Book to @SchomakerAstrid, the Executive Secretary of @UNBiodiversity at the opening of the Regional Workshop on Knowledge Management for Biodiversity for Countries in Africa in #AddisAbaba, Ethiopia.
Having our work acknowledged on such a global stage and by the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) reaffirms our commitment to harnessing the power of knowledge and informed decision-making to address the pressing challenges facing our ecosystems.
The Map Book is a powerful tool designed to support global efforts toward the 2050 Vision of living in harmony with nature, and the achievement of the 23 targets of the #KMGBF by 2030.
Importantly, the Map Book illustrates how 24 countries are progressing toward Target 3, which calls for conserving 30% of the planet’s land and marine areas through Protected Areas (PAs) and Other Effective Area-Based Conservation Measures (#OECMs).
