@XPilot@moonpouncer Yeah. I di not whack people on asking but I find this pricing weird when norm (to individuals) is cheap or free. SageThumbs2K added license fee but like old McAfee 1.0 it is only for business users. That used to be thing, too. Paid license including updates forever is common.
I really would not wish to dunk on independent developers. I am for deciding your own value.
But in this day and age, "Perpetual license" means a YEAR of updates? Third of what every android phone promises? In security hellscape for a Windows app? This is a yearly subscription.
@AronGomu If it was quality software.
And still: there is tons of arguably higher quality software, or at least, quality software that does much more to improve QOL for win11 user, for cheaper. StartAllBack11 is 5$ for individual, and "updatea forever" for that price.
@qbjc392@RoCaP23 Just my opinion on software pricing aimed at individuals. Overcharge businesses. That is how good software makes good money. Traditionally by charging businesses only, and not the individual at all actually. But overcharging and shrinkflating your product in this economy? Is good?
@qbjc392@RoCaP23 This is different version of 100$ (digital only also) game pricing. It is weird how in that case, people elect to say more than "well nobody is forcing you to buy it. Well the price is sensible as long as they ask of it. It actually makes sense. They should actually cost more."
@qbjc392@RoCaP23 Somehow people choose to engage me on it. I choose to answer them. I am bored I have few beers I am making a digital shopping list. I would have recommended more sensible pricing model towards individuals but instead the developer has bad vibes from ether, gets defensive.
@miodden Microsoft has already stated they use FilePilot as a benchmark in their rewrite of Microsoft Windows 11 explorer file manager. If they actually deliver with that, FilePilot offers currently less, and asks for more than most people paid for Windows itself.
@miodden No, perpetual does not necessarily mean that it will not get updates. If you want, charge for every update. Just do not expect to be cheered for that. For most modern software, perpetual updates are included in perpetual license. And those licenses are sold at 5-40€
@miodden It is combination of "perpetual but actually very stingy" in combination with a very steep asking price when compared to similar shareware software, more complex software (like video/audio editing), Older software (like Total Commander) etc.
And people saying I am wrong because.
@ambivalentFloat I have not been emotional about this what so ever. No need to project your mental on me. Sorry if my browser scares you. Sorry if it makes it impossible for you to read and comprehend text, but I could read and comprehend it just fine. If you cannot... Sorry, you oughta fix that.
@ambivalentFloat Subscription software literally tells you "hey, no need to pay 300€ for one time license, just pay us monthly or annually because we keep updating this software with that pricing."
Well... At least there is the option to pay 250€ as non-business for a file manager... Yay...
@ambivalentFloat I point out, that indie/small team developers and their small direct to customers software, is not priced this high, nor is this stingy with support. Given that updates are also important for security for past 20 years, it is also selling a potential security risk.
@CBaseDataCode Because no matter who or what you are, fairness is important in pricing. Gaming has gone through this discussion for past 5 years. I went through my budget for this month and software I would like to buy. I want to buy StartAllBack. "Might pay for Fpilot too what was it again..?"
@EddieL77752265 Well. Tons of them exist already. The silliest part is currently FilePilot is one of the more poor file manager options, at least in it's current state, which is used to pre-sell the program for 40 instead of 50. Crash prone, extremely limited feature set. It's only fast.
@ambivalentFloat Yes it does. Not my fault if you cannot fathom parallels.
No idea where I get the idea of updates included in program. Except this is only "perpetual license" program that is stingy about updates. For a high price.
