AMCA first flight by 2028 seems a moonshot given even the vendor for prototype development is not selected yet. The RFP requires first flight in 30 months, which is Mid 2029 if contract is signed today. Realistically, I would bet on 4 years from contract signing. @VishnuNDTV

The B-2 already buried its engines and flattened its exhausts to suppress radar and infrared signatures.

But 38 years later, look at how much further the B-21 appears to push the same idea. Its exhaust outlets are astonishingly thin, almost disappearing into the upper surface of the wing.

Underneath that skin, two engines still have to move an enormous mass of hot gas through carefully shaped internal flow paths without sacrificing too much thrust or cooking the surrounding structure.

And this may be where much of the technology we cannot see is hiding.

Modern CFD allows far more aggressive duct geometries, while composites, high temperature materials and radar-absorbing structures can make the exhaust system itself part of the stealth architecture.

The long upper surface behind the outlets may also help shield hot components from observers below, while giving the exhaust more distance to spread and mix with cold air before reaching infrared sensors.

The B-2 introduced this philosophy. The B-21 looks like what another 38 years of propulsion, materials and electromagnetic modelling can do with it.

The U.S. Air Force has taken delivery of its first two Collaborative Combat Aircraft at Creech Air Force Base, Nevada, the Department of the Air Force said on 24 September.

Airmen are already flying Fury. ACC will work out how the uncrewed jets fight beside F-35s and the future F-47. Each CCA is expected to cost about one-third of an F-35A. Fury is roughly half an F-16.

July brought a second Agile Combat Employment drill at Creech and an AIM-120 shot from a YFQ-44A. GA paused flights after a crash earlier this year, then resumed.

Both Increment 1 designs were ordered into production on 17 June — FQ-42A and FQ-44A — four months early. The service wants 150-plus by 2030 and has asked for $1 billion in FY27 buy money plus $1.4 billion to develop. Split and unit price were not given. Northrop’s Increment 2 path is already tagged YFQ-48A.

8/ Market angle: This isn’t just an IAF story. Navy (carrier-compatible variants), and potentially the Army’s own loyal-wingman needs open up a multi-service Indian CCA market — plus export potential to like-minded air forces facing the same fighter-numbers squeeze.
