PEMRA has issued a show-cause notice to Geo News for airing content related to the legendary subcontinent singer Asha Bhosle.
It has always been customary to revisit and celebrate the work of iconic artists when reporting on them. In fact, for an artist of Asha Bhosle’s stature, we should have shared even more of her timeless and memorable songs than we did.
Yet, Pakistan’s electronic media regulator, Pemra, has chosen to restrict this.
Art, like knowledge, is a shared heritage of humanity and it should not be confined by borders. Asha Bhosle herself admired Pakistan’s legendary singer Noor Jahan, whom she fondly called her “elder sister.” She collaborated with Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan and brought to life the poetry of great Urdu poets like Nasir Kazmi.
In times of war and conflict, art and artists should not become casualties. Intellectuals, musicians, and creators are often the very voices that stand against hatred and division, and the ones who bring people closer together.
Beg to differ. It preached to the convert, was classist, gated close-knit community of auto-repeated invitees. I could go on, but, having worked in the industry 2 decades and seen Mumbai Festival become MAMI, this is my true feeling about it, based on how excluded I felt.
Ravi Shastri didn’t even realise the game was over while commentating. He fumbled as the final ended... it kind of sums up this World Cup. But congratulations to Team India. #INDvNZ
Amid the row over veteran actor's op-ed, Naseeruddin Shah refuses to comment when confronted by Times Now.
He pushed the mic away: @YakkatiSowmith reports what transpired when he questioned Naseeruddin Shah.
I’m actually glad a new section of the audience has discovered that in films, shots have purpose, characters have backstories, music/songs mean more than noise, visuals can be symbolic, Easter eggs exist and films can be political. New India has discovered basic film discourse.
Very strange approach by the Pakistan Under-19 team. Did they give up on their semifinal hopes? Winning this match means nothing without improving the run rate. Is beating India bigger than winning the World Cup? #under19worldcup
I will never take an ACTOR, DIRECTOR OR WRITER seriously who does not actively watch movies
What do you mean you don't remember the last movie you watched? YOU ARE IN THIS INDUSTRY. Be involved, be mindful and for god sake, BE AWARE
“Let’s celebrate the soldier, not the war,” a well-known Indian filmmaker told me while we were developing a series based on an important event in Indian history.
The series was never greenlit because there wasn’t enough jingoism in it.
This might not work.
But we’re releasing our first feature film on YouTube. For free.
We’re putting it out on a YouTube channel called Chalchitra Originals - a curated platform we want to use to champion, showcase, distribute, and produce films and shows from creators across India who are looking for a YouTube release. What we’re doing isn’t backed by any data. But YouTube changed our lives when we started Chalchitra Talks in 2018. It was our BC-to-AD moment. And we want to create another one.
A film is made to be seen by as many people as possible, and there’s one medium we truly understand that allows that: YouTube.
Right now, Chalchitra Originals has fewer than 3,000 subscribers. Our goal is to reach 10,000 before release day. It would mean the world to us if you head to YouTube, search for Chalchitra Originals, and subscribe.
Once you do, comment “Subscribed” below.
We feel this could disrupt the world of independent filmmaking in India through YouTube - and all we need is your help. So let’s do it.
