A lot of Savarna commentator are regurgitating their caste bias against Separate Electorate, recently demanded by Azad in the Parliament. Separate electorate is part of Dalits' history and their political struggle since as long as Depressed Classes were identified
What people often forget is that many of the administrative categories that we see today are results of political strength and manoeuvring at different moments. The inclusion of Sikhs in the SC list, and later Buddhists, were all results of political negotiations.
The Supreme Court has ruled that only Dalit Hindus, Sikhs, & Buddhists are eligible for protections accorded to SCs. @SumitSamos decodes.

Thank you castelesscaucus and everyone who joined the presentation at the Harvard Kennedy. It was wonderful to share excerpts from our upcoming book, The Caste Problem in Contemporary India, and to engage in such meaningful conversation.
Will be discussing parts of my introduction to an upcoming co-edited volume titled "The Caste Problem in Contemporary India" with Professor Barbara Harris-White.
If you are in and around Boston, do join.
I introduced The Prohibition of Manual Scavenging and Protection of Sanitation Workers (ICT) Bill, 2026 to end manual scavenging, ensure safe working conditions, provide legal protection, mandate mechanised cleaning, and establish accountability for employers and authorities. This bill recognises sanitation workers as rights-holders not expendable labour and affirms their right to dignity, safety, and life.

She speaks with certainty because power is monopolized—from universities to Parliament, media to mandirs, land to the judiciary. Brahmin Savarna dominance is total. What option is left to protect Bahujan lives?
The silence of international and national white/savarna scholars - who made careers in social science writing about caste & discrimination and never miss a chance to promote their research on these media platforms - is quite deafening.
The PIL against the UGC Equity Regulations 2026 are trying to redefine Dalit-Bahujan-Adivasi politics as caste-based discrimination against upper castes.
Thats all there is to it! Read the pleadings.

So Savarnas manufactured a story in SRCC against SC/ST student and ran it all around to create paranoia about how these people will use UGC regulations against them. Shame on these Savarn Samaj. Now SRCC has come up with a clarification that nothing of that sort has been reported
Opinion | Conflicts around caste and religion in India often begin as small sparks. There are moments when these conflicts descend from above, by institutions and power structures. In both cases, what is revealed are the fault lines long simmering beneath the surface.
The University Grants Commission (Promotion of Equity in Higher Education Institutions) Regulations, 2026 belong firmly to the latter category. Read: https://t.co/v1xDkjlvSK
Why are you agitated if you know you don't practice caste discrimination. Because if applies to those who practice it. Also this is not the old times as upper castes you can say and do what you feel like and Dalit Bahujans will quietly take it. They will give back properly.
This in English called circumlocution. This is the understanding of a Brahmin MP on Caste discrimination in higher education. Can't stay away from caste loyalty, can't understand that Castes are a hierarchy and it is the upper castes who discriminate those below them..
While any kind of caste discrimination on the campus is wrong, India has seen enough of students having to suffer the consequences of it, however shouldn’t the law be encompassing and ensure protection is guaranteed to all? Why this discrimination in application of law? What happens in case of false cases? How does one decide guilt? How does one describe discrimination- through words, actions or perceptions? The applicability of law has to be clear, precise and equal for all.
Hence instead of creating a bad environment on campuses I’d urge that the UGC notification either be
withdrawn or corrected.
The recent killing of Saksham Tate, a Scheduled Caste (SC) youth in Nanded, Maharashtra, for his relationship with Aanchal Mamidwar from an Other Backward Classes (OBC) community, has triggered a wave of online reactions. Aanchal spoke out with remarkable courage, detailing the role her father and brother played in Saksham’s killing and the motivations behind it.
How does one explain caste violence perpetrated by OBC groups neither politically powerful nor landholding? @SumitSamos writes.
